Chapter 11
~Zayden~
I ran my hands through my hair as I looked around the cafeteria. It was quieter today than usual. Finally my eyes landed on a certain group of friends. They weren't looking or speaking with each other. I narrowed my eyes and held my breath. No Calley.
What the heck? I talked to her just yesterday. I got up and left the stuffy room and headed outside. What that stupid girl can do in a day is a mystery to me.
~~
I appeared in the recruit training camp hastily and looked around for Alec. Some of the kids that were training had a look of terror across their faces as they starred at me. Probably never seen a ghost before. I stood up straighter and asked them where Alec was. They all pointed to the entrance.
I sighed as I headed for him and noticed he wasn't alone. He was shouting at someone and his face was getting red. I got closer and saw a girl around thirteen shouting up at him. I tilted my head when I saw her. What's a girl like her doing here?
"No, you may not join!" Alec shouted, clearly getting frustrated.
"Why not?" The girl shouted back, stomping her foot. That's when I decided to intervene. I appeared right next to her and crouched down by her, looking up at Alec.
I smiled at him and spoke softly, "What's the problem here?"
"This big fat meanie says I can't join." She pouted and crossed her arms.
"Look, little turd, you're to damn young." Alec shot back.
At that moment they both decide to look at me for an answer. I chuckled to myself and flicked my eyes over the young girls face. My gaze landed on her eyes. They were the exact same color as mine, yet more bright and brilliant. I cleared my throat and told her, "Wait a second."
The girl seemed to get even more frustrated and started to twitch when she heard that. She started fazing in and out like I do when I can't control myself in a fight. Alec noticed this to and his eyes widened in shock as he realized what's happening. We didn't need that meeting anymore.
I got back down on my knees and looked right into the girls innocent grey eyes. I cleared my throat and felt my voice come out as a whisper, "Are you a ghost, girl?"
She nodded, looking down.
"Any family?"
Tears pricked her eyes as she answered, "I lost my family years ago. I'm an orphan."
Just like me. I looked over the girl one more time before I made my decision. I will be her trainer in this newly found ghost. I'll be her family and friends. I turned away and started walking back to the training center, "Welcome home."
Once I said that a small pair of arms encircled my waist. I smiled.
~~
"What's this?" I asked. A piece of white paper blocking my vision of the recruits training. Some of the newbies are really bad. I was doing the simple exercises with them, but they're still working. I finished ten minutes ago. As for the little ghost girl, Robin is her name, she's been given smaller separate exercises to work on strength.
"A list of 23 creature kids gone missing in the past week," Alec paused and whispered, "The FHA is getting stronger, we're steps behind them, and we have to set a alert out. The FHA is getting in the borders."
I thought back to Calley and how she took me over the border, saying that we're fine and humans won't hurt us. "Let me see the list," I stuck my hand out to Alec, "it's probably kids that like to cross the bo-"
Calley's name right there. She was on the list. She went over the border. She probably thought it was smart to think the humans were nice and did good.
Calley has never been through the hell I went through when I got captured. No, she won't make it. Shit.
"Meet me in the conference room with the leaders." I ordered Alec and vanished to the room.
~~
"23 more! We need to fix this." Our General yelled flicking his forked tongue.
"Put up fences, so they can't get in and kids can't get out." Colonel Blythe simply stated, getting a fair share of glares from the ten people around the table. He stood up, his blue skin boiling, and said, "Who knows what their doing to our people."
I raised my hand casually and said, "I do." The people around the table gave me their nods of appreciation and I continued talking. "The FHA is continuing to get stronger every minute, steps ahead of us now. They are taking creatures that cross the border into the human land and brainwashing them. Considering that our brains are stronger then theirs, I give them two weeks before they start taking people again."
The conference room turned to chaos after I said that. All I could hear was the shouts and screams from one to the other. Alec and I stood quiet. Half the people here, well most, haven't been in the rank they are for a few months. And this is their first job? Hard.
"Shut up!" Alec screamed across the room, "Will you listen to our plan?" He turned around and muttered to himself so I could barely hear, "Bunch of babies, that's what they are."
I gave him a warning glance and cleared my throat for the room to listen. "Look I think we need to send someone in there that knows the building and what's going on in there. Just a spy. Gain their trust and we're golden. So who we sending?"
The General kept a serious face as he said, "How about you?" The room went quiet. "What I mean is, is that you know what's happening you know where the headquarters and all that. So why not you?"
I widened my eyes and looked around the room. Everyone was silent and waiting. I shifted unsteady on my feet. "Fine, I'll do it. But I need three days preparation."
