Chapter 9
~Zayden~
I watched as Calley left the cafeteria and I decided to follow her. Until I got stampeded by a bunch of crazy girls saying absolute crazy things like for example;
"OMG! Your so hot!" Yeah, I know thanks Ms. Captain Obvious.
"Are you single?" Yes I am, but right now I'm mentally dating myself because I'm so good looking.
"Can you take my virginity?" Okay, that was not cool. I gave that girl a weird look, she is so weird. Wait it's a Water Fairy. Their very horny.
And lastly my favorite one;
"You are delicious looking!" I think that one might've slipped out of their mouths but it made my day. Because I know it's the truth.
I finally managed my way out of the sea of girls and pushed open the doors to see Calley sitting on the sidewalk, head in hands, and mumbling to herself. I took a few steps closer to her and felt rain instantly on my head. This was so not the time. I walked closer to her and sat down next to her.
She gave me a quick, surprised glance before returning her attention to the road. I wasn't expecting her to talk to me. If anything to have it willingly. So that was why I was stunned when she spoke to me. "Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be human?"
I gave her a once-over before returning my gaze to the road. It was a question I got asked before. From my Vamps of parents to my best friend Alec. I had considered it multiple times. But after living and interacting with humans for a long time, I finally decided what they are. Cold blooded things that come after us and all we do is live harmlessly. Okay, almost harmlessly.
I looked back at Calley and answered her the flat out truth. "It's a waste of time."
She glanced at me as I stood up and starting walking off the school grounds. All I heard was a watery sounding voice saying. "Why?"
I turned around and noticed tears welling up in her eyes. Crap, don't cry. I gave her a determined look before answering quietly. "Because your not the one risking your life in a war against them."
Then I vanished. Just like that.

I shifted slightly as I saw willing fantasy teens get recruited for our small Army division. Our Army was like humans, just a little different. One, we recruit not only by age, but what kind of creature they are. And two, we have a way smaller Army then humans do.
I felt a new presence by me as my First Lieutenant stood next to me. "Captain, there is only about 200 recruits."
I turned to face Alec and said. "Can you not use that term it makes me feel old. And as for the number it's fine we can work on it." Shutting my eyes tight I tried to ignore the noise around me, but it's kinda hard when your Captain.
I became Captain a few months ago after learning that most of our ranking officers were killed by the FHA. It was the worst feeling in the world finding out that you were replacing a dead man. It's a scary and saddening thought. People thought I was comfortable with it, and I am, just not ready for it. The upside is that I only do battle plans, recruits tests, and the actual battle.
No sweat.
Alec came into view as I opened my eyes and I half jumped. He gave me a frown and said, "no offense or anything, but are you ready for this?"
I gave him a stern look and removed my sword and dagger from myself. I looked him right in the eye and said. "Hell no."
For the second time that day, I vanished. Just like that.
~~
Walking down the school hallways that day was frightening. I was jumpy and my eyes were darting all over the place. I knew I wasn't my normal self. Last night I had thought and thought about the war and being Captain, that I literally scared myself.
I wasn't ready for this and only God knows what I'll do next.
Well, God must hate me. I was suddenly pushed up against the wall of the hallway and my breath was force out of me as I impacted. I looked up to see my attacker and smirked. It was Calley's wonderful boyfriend. Since I don't know his name, let's call him Jerk for now.
Jerk pushed me harder against the wall and snarled to my face. "Your the guy that made my girlfriend cry."
I leaned my head against the wall and sighed. "My name's Zayden. What's yours?"
"Why you make her cry?"
I noticed a faint glint in his eye before I was punched in the gut, by Mr. Jerk. After I recovered I looked back at him and sighed. "Well, I'm sorry I didn't know your girlfriend was weak."
That set him off. I was once again punched in the gut and when he steadied me for another punch, I gave him a swift right hook to the eye. I smirked as I watched the crowd grow bigger of curious students. I looked down at Jerk and got down so I was eye level with him. "Next time pick a fight you'll have a chance at."
I then picked up my fallen backpack and walked through the students as they parted for me like Moses and the Red Sea.
I heard a faint voice like Calley's as I walked away. "Ander!" Oh, so that's Jerk's name. I took a glance over my shoulder and barely just caught a glare from Calley and her friend. I did a small saluted wave and turned around and walked back to class.
Don't you love high school?

Alright to all of those readers out there, if any, I'm super sorry. I got busy and I know this is a crap chapter and you expected better for me. Well, I'm sorry. I've been busy.
And if you don't know much about ranking officers in the army that's okay. Just remember that a Captain is one rank higher then First Lieutenant. Got it? Okay!
I promise I will upload faster when it's my turn and to TheIslandOfSicily. I'm sorry it took forever and I did post before the weekend ended. A full hour left to spare.
