Emma POV

" Emma! What the heck are you doing?" I turned around to meet my best friend's gaze.

" Erm, nothing?" I replied, slightly nervous.

" That's not what nothing looks like. Your chewing on five packs of gum! What the hell?" She looked at me disbelievingly. I gave her a 'what' gesture. My Best Friend is a doctor, her name is Emily Dyer. Emily always tie her fiery red hair into a bun and has emerald green eyes. She is a well known doctor in our town. Our town is called the 'whispers' . It's quite secluded and peaceful. Everyone in the town knows each other due to our small town size.

Unlike Emily, I have chocolate brown hair and my hair is always up in a pony tail. When I'm gardening, I put on my good ole beige hat which kind of help block out the sunlight to prevent me from getting a heatstroke. Sometimes, the town temperature during summer time can be up to 45 degrees. Also I inherited my father's grey eyes. I don't remember vividly how my Father looked like because he died when I was young. I only know that he loved my Mother very much and that before he had died, he personally played with me Everyday when I was young. When he passed on, my Mother was devastated. She was emotionally in pain and whenever she looked at me, her face would break. It was as if I brought her the pain that I never wish I did. It wasn't my fault that I had my father's eyes. Over the years when I was growing up, things started to get better. Mother was not as heartbroken as before. She gradually went out of the house more often, she manage to get her life back on track. I was happy for Mother. Our relationship also got better.

" It's not impossible to chew five pack of gums Emily. Just admit it, you suck at chewing gum. You can't even chew properly without having gum all over your mouth, let alone blow a bubble!" I teased her. It was always funny watching Emily's chubby cheeks get redder and her green eyes get angrier. Emily huffed and looked away from me with her hands crossed. I laughed at her childishness.

" Emma! Your Mother is sick!" My smile faded and I quickly faced the voice. It was Lily, my neighbour. I immediately ditch Emily and ran, no flew to my house. " Hey wait for me!" Emily called from behind. My heart was racing and thumping against my rib cage. My mind was going hay wire. All kinds of thoughts came in; What if she was caught up with an extremely bad flu? She couldn't be in a coma right? Soon, I reached my front door, along with a panting Emily beside me.

" Damn, I can't run. I feel like I'm going to die." Emily said breathlessly. I ignored her and open the door frantically and ran into Mother's bedroom. The sight before me was enough to make me want to cry. Mother was laying on the bed with needles in her wrist. She looked so pale and lifeless. Her raven black hair slowly began to turn white and she had bags under her eyes. I dashed to her body, not daring enough to hold her hand. I'm afraid that I would hurt her if I touched her. She felt so fragile. I couldn't think straight.

" Ma? Can you hear me? Ma?" I desperately called for her. My eyes were filled with tears. I saw her head turn to look at me and it look like it took most of her strength just to do that.

" Emmy my dear. The...Doctors said that I caught the dente di Leone mortale disease." My body froze. The dente di Leone mortale was the deadliest disease in our town history. This disease alone could kill the victim in less than 2 months. The process is extremely painful.
It's pain is gradual and Long lasting. It is basically torture.

Emily gasped. I shook my head in denial and looked at Emily. My eyes were begging her to tell me that this was just a joke but when her eyes met mine, I knew then that i got my answer. " Emily, please...please tell me that it is not true..." I plead her. My voice quivering along with my heart.
