" I'm not that frail to the point that I can't sit up on my own without anyone's help dear." Mother chuckled slightly, seeing my worried eyes looking right at her. I rushed towards her side and helped her sit upright while readjusting the pillow to her back to make her more comfortable.

" However I cannot help but be worried about you still Ma! What would have happened if you had injured yourself or something? I will be the one who feels that it is my own fault...especially since you're the only family member I have left." My voice gradually got quieter at the end, my mood instantly turned sad. Mother glanced at me sadly but tried to cover it up with a weak smile in an attempt to show me that she is 'fine'.

" Dear, sometimes in life, somethings don't always last for long. Hence, you should treasure whatever you have with you now currently and not think negatively about this situation Emma. I know that you are going to be a mess when I leave so please just at least try not to think about this anymore and pretend that I'm not on the verge of dying okay?" Mother tried to comfort me. I suddenly felt ashamed of myself: I should be the one to do the comforting, not the other way round. Gosh what am I doing?  I  quickly composed myself and put up  a convincing smile towards Mother and nodded my head. I then told her all the eventful things that had happened the past few days while Mother held my hand with great gentleness and listened with interest.

I left Mother in her room with the pancakes on her bedside table to go downstairs in the living room where Emily is at. When I reached the living room, I saw Emily look at the family photo with a certain emotion in her eyes that I could not decipher. I was about to call for her when she spoke," Your father was like my own father to me. I remember growing up without a father because my father left for a sing song girl that was twice as young as him. Then my mother left me too when I was five for she blamed me and accuse me that I am the reason father had left us, more importantly her." I felt that her sudden confession was abrupt. I was also confused as to why she would tell me things that were in the past. She then turned around to face me and slowly walked to me.

" I had hit rock bottom at that point in my life. Even though I was five, I had become depressed. One day, I passed by this large building that looked so professional. Curiosity overwhelmed me and I went in. Then, I saw all those people dressed in uniforms, walking around with needles and other weird stuff in their hands. That was when I learnt doctors existed. Thus, I decided to become a doctor so I could help 'heal' the people around me. Oh how wrong I was then."
