OH MY GOD. Last time I ever updated this book, it was in April of 2018. Now, I know it has not been a year but some peeps have commented some funny, sad and happy comments that made my whole days. So, here's a 'interview' with me, and how this book came to life.
1. What's the character you had more fun writting?
God, that was a tough one. I loved writting each character because they all their own personalities but if I had to choose a character who was my favorite, I would go with Mark Winston who, in a way, is a original character and I think that's why I had the most fun to write.
2. Why?
Well, like I said, because he was an orignal character. He was made out of my crazy, orginal mind. Also, because he was the closest one to me because for some goddamn odd reason, I wrote personal stuff about Mark. Think of Mark like me, he is not fully me but there are some big character traits that I share with the asshole. Also because no one knows which side Mark's on. Is he good or is he evil? If I could explain Mark it would probably be by the song 'Who I am' by the Score.
3. How did you come up with the plot?
Well, to be honest. It wasn't an 'original' idea as you can read many other stories about the same plot. However, I wanted to bring something new to the table. I mixed the movie and the book together and tried my best to give it a goddamn logical sense. The plot was basically, Thomas rescuing Newt. But there's more, the Title itself gives a lot of the whole plot. Because you see, I did not want to put something that said 'Maze Runner' nor 'Gladers' but I didn't want to put 'Teen Wolf' nor 'Scott McCall' in the title. I settled with My True Pack because well, Stiles was part of a pack but he realized it wasn't its true pack.
The whole plot came to me in school and in my sweet, sweet dreams. I wanted to make Thomas the main character but I did not want to idolize him so much as a lot of books do. In my opinion, I did not want to make him the perfect goddamn character because he is not one of those people. No one is perfect in this book, but I wanted Thomas to realize that sometimes, forgiving is better than forgetting.
The whole American Assassin crossover was something I did not prepared for. But I wanted a main conflict between Scott and Stiles. Two people from two whole different worlds, with two different perspectives about how life should be treated but had the same goal. To protect the ones they loved and save the innocent.
3. Do you hate Scott and the Pack in this book?
No. Not at all. Let me explain.
I always try to give this 3D feeling in my books. I want to cover all the point of views here. Now, yeah, Scott needs to act kind of asshole-y here because if he doesn't, then what's the point? But you see, the thing that bothers the most to Scott is realizing that Thomas is not Stiles. Is not the best friend he grew up with, he is not the guy he used to know.
Everyone in the pack has the same reaction, some do not like that extreme change in Stiles but learn to accept it in a way. But Scott doesn't accept, he doesn't want to believe that. And well, he puts that denial in a very offensive way.
I don't like him but I don't hate them or him.
4. What's the saddest death you wrote that made you cry?
My books don't make me cry, let me tell you that right now. Is sad and all that but for some odd reason I do not cry. So, scratch that but I will tell you what death was the saddest for me. So, I told you guys that in total, there were going to be five deaths. Right? Isaac, Jackson, Peter, Mark and Scott. And I said that I would kill one that no one dared to. Scott McCall.
So, look, there aren't a lot of books out there where Scott dies, mostly because he is the main character of a series and also because most of them are based about Stiles and Scott's a secondary character but for me, his death was the saddest because I always knew he was gonna die.
I did not know how, however. I had a lot of drafts where Scott died in a lot of ways, not all of them were nice and most of them were sad af.
I remember there was this draft where, Newt is slowly dying because he was catching the Flare or a replica for werewolves and Thomas was going to sacrifice himself to make the cure even if it cost his life. So, he was in a chair with an IV that sucked out his blood and transformed it to the cure. And I think Liam or Mark told him that at the rate he was going, he would be dead by the time they got the necessary liquid to get the cure.
So, without warning, Scott grabs a chair and hooks one of the two IVs to his system. Now, Thomas wasn't so happy because Scott could die. Even if he joked he was an Alpha werewolf who could not die easily. So, they start chatting while the IVs suck their blood. In those chats, Scott starts saying sorry and remembering all the fun times they had together and hopes Stiles's new pack brings him the same joy as his pack did. Thomas finally accepts his apology and Scott chuckles and says.
"Take care of them, Thomas."
And he closes his eyes and sacrifices himself for his best friend.
But the real ending stuck with me more because, they were gonna die. All of them. And Thomas knew there was one-way ticket for only one of them. And the fact that Scott called Stiles, Thomas shows that he finally got to terms that his best friend became a man of honor. Also, because Thomas just forgave Scott and lost him so soon.
And the last words that Scott says to Thomas.
"Is beautiful over there." Are in fact, the last words said by Thomas Edison. Nice little easter egg there.
Also, because Scott stated in one of the chapters. "I'll call you Thomas the day I die."
I may do one later but hoped this was good.
