I'm back! I stayed at my mom's for a few days, where there's no wifi ಥ_ಥ But all is well! I'm going to try to update as much as possible, but I go back to school in 10 days so I'm also trying to get as much fun in these few days as I possibly can. Thanks for reading!

The smell of sausage filled my nose as I sat on a rock, watching Pippin practice his sword fighting with Boromir. Clinks from their swords coming into contact echoed across the land, as well as Boromir giving them directions and tips.

"Good, very good." he complimented, continuing to prepare Pippin.

"Relax, Pip. Keep your body balanced!" I called, a grin flowing across my face as he blocked one of Boromir's blows.

Aragorn sat next to me, "Move your feet,"

I smiled at the hobbit as he backed away from Boromir's swing, just as Aragorn had suggested.

"You look good, Pippin." Merry said, standing beside his best friend.

He looked over at his shoulder briefly, "Thanks!"

Then Merry joined in, Sam and Frodo grinning from the sidelines. From behind me I hear Gimli begin to speak loud enough for everyone to hear him.

"If anyone was to ask for my opinion, which I note that they're not, I'd say that we were taking the long way round. Gandalf, we could pass through the Mines of Moria. My cousin Balin would give us a royal welcome." his gruff voice suggested.

I could hear Gandalf sigh, though I didn't turn around to join the conversation, "No Gimli, I would not take the road through Moria unless I had no other choice."

Out of the corner of my eye I see Legolas run to the other side of the rocky platform we were on, staring over at the grey clouds. I looked over at him, his face was scrunched up in confusion and surveillance. My attention was pulled away when a yelp came from Pippin.

"Sorry!" Boromir exclaimed, stepping forward to look at Pippin's hand.

When the man came within distance Pippin kicked him in his shin, letting out a throat-shredding battle cry.

Merry threw himself at Boromir, "Get him!"

The two hobbits wrestled him down, Boromir chuckling with them. I covered my mouth in surprise as I laughed, not able to take my eyes off the wild scene.

"For the Shire!" Pippin yelled, "Hold him, hold him down Merry!"

Aragorn stood up from his spot next to me, his face clearly amused, "Alright gentlemen, that's enough!" he reached down and grabbed the back of the hobbit's vests. Merry and Pippin grabbed his legs and flipped him backwards onto the ground, shouting things I couldn't hear clearly.

I notice Sam stand to his feet and look into the direction Legolas was still evaluating, "What is that?"

"Nothing," Gimli replied, "It's just a whisp of cloud!"

I stood up and covered my eyes from the sun, "It's moving fast... against the wind."

My heart pounded at what Legolas said next, "It's Crebain! From Dudland!"

Aragorn cried for us to take cover, us following his instructions. Everyone gathered their things and hid with them, I doused the fire that Sam had started. Just as I got comfortable underneath a large shrub, a large flock of black crows began to fly over head. Their squawks rang out in our ears as they flew out into the distance, the beating of their wings echoing across the land. As soon as it was safe, we all crawled out of our hiding spots, none of us speaking. Their was an eerie feeling clinging in the air, as if it still wasn't safe. Finally Gandalf broke the silence.

"Spies of Saruman. The passage south is being watched, we must take the pass through Caradhras."

I looked over to the snowy mountains in the distance. Gandalf walked alone in the head of the group, so I jogged up to him in hopes of convincing him of another path.

"Gandalf, don't you think that it'll be a more than difficult trek for the hobbits?"

His expression turned grave, "It is the only option aside from Moria."

I sighed, "And what exactly is so bad about Moria?"

"Besides the unknown dangers that lurk in the shadows, there lies a demon of darkness and flame. I wouldn't venture there unless it was absolutely necessary." the old wizard explained, his eyes blank.

I grew quiet, not exactly sure of what to say next. Either path would be deadly. There was this gnawing feeling that I just couldn't shake; somebody wouldn't make it out alive. If we took the voyage through the mountains the hobbits would freeze to death, and if we went through Moria we could all possibly die. No way was safe, but how much did I expect from this journey?
