I parked my car and started walking up to the building. Mike was sitting on the sidewalk before the hospital, staring up at the sky.

I held my hand out and he grabbed it, pulling himself up. "Cassie's still in there. We have to go see her," I started pulling him towards the building. He didn't protest.

"I'm so sorry, baby," Mike mumbled as he sat beside Cassie's bedside, holding her hand. They were staring deep into each other's eyes.

"I'll give you two a minute," I said, stepping out.

I sat down in a chair outside the door and pulled out my phone.

Ana: bish where you at

Ana: you were supposed to be here an hour ago

Ana: fuck it, don't talk to me

I typed a reply.

Alex: Sorry, dude. Just picked up Mike from the hospital. Is Mya there?

I set my phone down on my lap and stared at the ceiling, counting the squares.

One.

Two.

Three...

Bzzz.

Ana: yeah

Ana: when you come, bring mike

I noticed a lady wearing a striped, red and white shirt approach. She had brown hair and blue eyes with the facial structure similar to Cassie's. "Is this Cassie's room?" She broke the silence.

"Yeah. Wait and minutes, though. She's talking to someone."

"I will not wait! She's my daughter!" She yelled at me, opening the door.

The sentence that Cassie said that was heard through the open door destroyed a relationship once thriving.

"I can't, we need to break up."

Mike ran out of the room, tears falling down his cheeks. I thought men didn't cry.

I chased after him, grabbing his arm and wrapping him in the tightest hug I could give. "Don't worry. She'll come around."

"No, she won't! I told you she'd hate me after what I did. I told you she wouldn't love me!"

"She will come around."
