I couldn't quit dancing around the empty house. The news was playing in the background, and the music was blasting from my phone. With no progression on the case that had swept the city, I was living the dream. Although, I knew that I wasn't supposed to be this happy about having her crime posted on every news website and replayed on every news channel, and yet she still was. Closing all the blinds to her house and double checking her door's lock, she made her way to the goody bag waiting for her.
She pulled out the small wads of cash, separating each of them into their singular bills. Her father always hid his money in the third drawer of his dresser in a locked box. Fortunately, she also knew that the key to that box was hidden under the toothbrush cup in the bathroom. She gracefully slid over the tile floor in her cozy socks all the way to the bathroom to retrieve the key.
At the end of every month, she knew her father would cash in all his earnings to the bank. She strategically planned the money out in portions so that neither the bank nor her father would notice the difference. After finishing with the money, the sparkling brooch caught her eye. She inspected it closely, and couldn't tell what it was made of. She smiled to herself while feeling quite playful. She clipped the brooch to her shirt pocket and straightened her posture.
"Would you like a cup of tea, Miss?" she said with proper tone.
She raised her chin up like she had all the money in the world, only to double over laughing at herself for no one to hear.
"A cup of tea sounds amazing right now!" a pristine voice exclaimed.
Her eyes flew open to see the mystical creature before her.
What is that? I can't decide if it's cute or creepy...
I froze in a what seemed to be a mix of shock and fear. Was my mind deceiving her, or did that thing just talk? It was blue with antennas and feathers. It seemed to sparkle as it flew... or floated around the room.
"Well don't just stand there. I'm still waiting for my cup of tea that you offered."
"I-I'm sorry, I don't have any tea" was all I could muster.
"What a shame. Being stuck in a miraculous that long isn't any good for the stomach."
"What are you again?"
"Again? I haven't even told you in the first place. I'm a kwami, the peacock kwami to be exact. That pin your wearing" it pointed to my stolen brooch, "is my miraculous. It gives you powers; all you have to say is my name and feathers fly!"
"What is you name then?"
"Duusu."
"Donso."
"No, Duusu."
"So I just say 'Duusu, feathers fly!' and I -"
After all the flashing lights and glowing particles left, she looked down to see herself in a whole different set of clothes. They were now a beautiful blue jumpsuit with a cape that resembled peacock feathers in the back. In her hand, she found a feathered fan which matched her cape.
Kwami must translate to fairy godmother in another language because I sure feel like Cinderella.
"This is so cool!"
Giving her new outfit a twirl, she noticed her magical mask. It was absolutely stunning, the blue really brought out the sparkling joy in her eyes. Her hair was stunningly pulled back into a half pony with one giant feather sticking up on the back of her head. She plucked it out of the hold in her hair to examine it; it seemed to be a quill of some sort. The feather pen in her hair confused her, she didn't know what it did. She wasn't much for drawing or writing, but it didn't matter anyway.
"Hey, uh, kumquat or whatever your name is, what exactly are my powers?"
Amelie searched all around the room, but the small, flying thing was nowhere to be seen. How was she supposed to get this suit off? The excited teen started to panic thinking about her parents coming home and seeing her dressed like this. She ran to the window looking at the placement of the sun.
When did the stars come out?!
Running to the clock, Amelie tripped over her own feet and crashed into her kitchen. Besides having chairs fall on top of her, her stomach started to squirm. If they saw her dressed like this, they would drop dead. What was she even supposed to say? She didn't even know what was happening herself, so explaining it to her tired, worn-out parents was unthinkable.
Hi Dad, this old thing is just a magical suit that I stole from a rich guy who lives in a mansion.
What a conversation that would be! Actually, they won't be able to talk because they might just faint at the sight of her dressed like one of those costumed clowns who called themselves heroes. She was usually good at lying, but even she couldn't think of a suitable lie at the moment.
Heh, wordplay. A suitable lie for her suit.
