And We're Rolling

When we got there, a tour guide with her hair in a bun came to greet us. The short bus ride helped me push the guilt back in its box and move forward with a smile. I could feel everyone's excitement radiate off of them. The sun felt amazing inside because it wasn't cold in the glass pyramid. As we walked from painting to painting, I started to see why they needed the extra help for the cleaning crew today. It felt like our mob of teens was leaving a path of garbage behind like a giant snail leaving a trail of slime. I tried to pick up as much as I could, but there was too much and the tour guide was moving fast. This kind of mess could make even an angel aggravated.

We came across a painting with a beautiful bird with majestic feathers projecting from its head. The guide introduced it as the Study of a Crowned Crane. Although a beautiful piece, the only thing it reminded me of was Pavo, the villain. I could feel Duusu snuggled in the hood of my light blue hoodie. I could no longer wear my regular gray jacket because the peacock kwami I was currently carrying around told I had to wear it at all times. In order to cover it up, I threw a hoodie over the shirt it was attached to, and no one was any the wiser.

I didn't think us to be villains; I wasn't the one who threw the first punch. Now that I think about it, I couldn't remember why I started running. In the moment, she had taken over. Duusu stressed that the miraculous I had been gifted with was only to be used for good. I wonder if she knew if I stole it or that the world has labeled me a dastardly villain.

Suddenly, a scream echoed off the walls and shook the entire building. There was a moment of utter silence as we all stood there staring at each other just wondering what we were to do next. Soon enough, a harmony of yells and cries of fear joined the first. This time, the ground physically shook as we all crashed to the floor. The akuma alert was blaring in my ears, but it was too late. A man dressed in a khaki-colored jumpsuit was driving a gigantic vacuum cleaner across the halls that were decorated with priceless art.

Dad?!

As the sickening realization hit, I joined the screeching chorus. All the terrible emotions of having to work a double shift with no sleep and being forced to watch people just litter their garbage everywhere must have pushed him over the edge. I'm new in town, but this stuff is all over the internet! I've heard that when you feel sad or angry, people are susceptible to being "akumatized" by a supervillain named Hawk Moth. My dad must be one of his victims! Through all the chaos, I ran and slid into the nearest bathroom. Panting like a dog on a summers day, I flew to the lock and secured the latch.

"Duusu, we have a big problem! My dad's been akumatized, what do I do?" My voice was reaching the octave of an opera singers closing finale. I had to wipe my forehead with my sleeve a few times. I was just praying that the disastrous duo would have mercy on my father. I couldn't let them hurt him. My power is only supposed to be used for good; it's gonna help me protect my family.

"The akuma is in an-"

"I know what I need to do!"

"I haven't even told-"

"Duusu, feathers fly!"

She could feel the power racing up her arms; granted, it was probably just the adrenaline but there is no difference. Kicking down the door flexing her newly found strength, the perfect dramatic entrance, the young avian was prepared to stretch her wings. With the vibrant fan in hand, this bird was ready to jump out of the nest.

"Give, me, your, miraculous!" the villain demanded in between the sucking up of priceless artwork. "Hawk Moth will give me the power to cleanse all of Paris if you give Dr. Vac your miraculous." As if on cue, Chat Noir showed up to the scene.
