while walking through the somewhat desolate park, she started rummaging in the pocket of her new coat. gum. useful. a pen. not needed. some floss. maybe she could hang herself with it. and then, she reached the treasure: cigarettes. a flash of giddiness went through her veins and she almost cracked a smile. cigarettes! this jacket really did save her. the cigarettes even came with a lighter. she did not need much anymore except for some shelter, food, and her little buddies and she knew exactly where to find all three.

months ago when she had first taken the train into this city, she had found a secluded area to call home. but then the police showed up and kicked her out. they were like pirates, stealing something they did not and would never need. so she needed a new place to go when she was not feeding the eyes. on one of her daily wanderings, she stumbled across an open door, and through that open door she walked into her princess castle. to most people it was a grunge-y theatre, but to her it was heaven. and she rarely found anything that was better than fine. so this run of the mill theatre became her den. she ran here to escape the eyes, the pirates, and most importantly herself. she hid her friends here- both the crystals and the blades. she fed her cravings here. she slept here. this theatre was where she went when everything else was obliterated into nothingness. this theatre was as close to home as a runaway could get.

and so, after lighting up a smoke, she headed home. the cigarette filled her with warmth, a warmth she considered to be close to the kind of lightness you feel after a good laugh. a cigarette's warmth was nothing like that, and she knew that, but sometimes it was nice to pretend. pretending was something she did a lot, and sometimes, her pretending fooled others' into think it was the truth. she pretended she was ok. she pretended she was fine. she pretended she was not broken. on occasion, her pretending was so good that she even fooled herself. but tonight, her pretending was off its game. she still had a sense of reality around her and she needed to get rid of that. her crystal buddies would help with that of course. they were not a permanent escape but they were close. and close was all she needed.

her little hide-away was around the corner and across the street which was excellent because her little flickering warmth was almost burned out. but soon enough she would be inside the theatre, and just a little bit after that she would be reunited with her friends. and then nothing would matter.

so she stomped out her lone cigarette and opened the magical gate to her own personal Disneyland, where her dreams came true.
