Prom.

That's a word I don't ever want to hear.

That means that all the girls are going to be freaking out about dresses, dates, and other such things.  I know this because I have a best friend who does this.  I haven't gone to prom in my three years at Carlile highschool, and I never wanted to.  What was the point?

It's one night where you get to dress like a princess and maybe win prom queen and king. It's really not that big of a deal....

"ANNA GET OVER HERE THIS ISTANT!!!" Layla screamed through the phone.

"What? Why?" I ask, painting my nails with the phone held between my ear and my shoulder.

"IT'S PROM NIGHT TODAY AND I STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT WHAT DRESS TO WEAR!!" Layla screams again.

"L, you need to stop freaking out and screaming.  You're going to bust my ear drum." I say rubbing my temple.

"Just get over here An, which would be now 4 o'clock not 4:01 or 4:02. NOW." Layla says and then hangs up the phone.

I finish painting my nails a shade of tan and then look at my prom dress.  Weren't thinking I was going to prom were you?

~5 hours earlier~

I jump out of bed because my sister started screaming.  I run into her room to see her pacing from the front of her room to the back of her room.

"What is wrong with you?" I ask sighing.

"I can't figure out what prom dress to wear." She says pointing to her red and blue prom dresses.

"I like the red one better.  You can rock the red lipstick. Go with that." I say smiling and then picking up her dress for her and giving it to her.

"Thanks sis!" Jenni says before pushing me out of her room and shutting her door in my face.

Who knew I would be the girl to help my sister with her prom issues??

I go back into my room and shut the door and change into my outfit for the day. I pick a red crop shirt that ties in the front and some black short jean shorts, and slide on my black hightop converse.  I slide my black fedora on and then open my door to see Carter.  I jump back and put my hand over my heart.

"CARTER!" I scream at him.

"You scared?" Carter says and walks into my room not even asking me.

"You- how-?" I say and sit down on my bed.

"Your mom let me in." He says smiling.

"Why are you here?" I ask.

"Am I not allowed to come visit my friend?" Carter asks.

"I never said that, you just scared me." I say falling back onto my bed.

"Sorry about that." He says chuckling to himself.

"But really why are you here?" I ask.

"Oh I was going to ask a different way but hmm would you like to go to prom with me?" He asks running his fingers through his hair looking slightly nervous.

"Hmm No." I say giggling and running into my closet and shutting the door.

"Anna. Open the door." Carter says clearly smirking on the other side.

"Nope." I say determined.

"Please." He says.

I stop holding the doorknob and carter falls into me. I land on the floor and carter is above me.  I blush and look away as Carter puts his hands on either side of me to steady himself.

"Sorry I didn't know you were going to fall." I say blushing.

"I didn't know you were going to let go of the door Anna." He says laughing.

"Sorry." I say grinning and looking at him.

"It's fine, I know you just wanted me on top of you." He says smirking showing his dimples.

"Ew stop Carter." I say blushing.

"Nope, you're so cute." He says.

I push carter forward and he looses his balance and his lips hit my lips.  He moves off of my lips and blushes.

"And why did you do that? Did you want me to kiss you? You could have just asked." He says chuckling.

"Shut up. You weigh a lot." I say pushing him over, and breathing.

"Sorry I am a human being." He says sitting up and looking over at me.

I get up and then soon carter does too.

I walk out and think about Carter asking me out to prom.  Should I go, or should I not?

I take my fedora off and then fix my hair and then put my fedora back on.  I cross my arms over my chest, and then look at Carter.  I bite my lip and look over at him.  I know I didn't like getting ready for prom but could it be fun once i'm there?

"So what's your answer?" Carter asks taking me out of the conversation I was having with myself.

"I guess it could be fun, I mean I keep telling myself I don't want to go to prom.  I might as well try." I say smiling.

"Yay." Carter says clearly excited.

"Be ready by 7." He says and grins and walks out of my room.

I go downstairs and see my mom smiling at the kitchen table.

"Mom why so cheery?" I ask.

"Oh nothing." She says.

"Stop tell me now." I ask.

"You're going to prom." She says grinning.

"Yes mom." I say and walk outside to my car and start driving to the mall to buy a dress for tonight.  I wasn't freaking out about a dress it shouldn't be that hard to find one right?  I park my car and then get out and start walking to the first store.  I enter the  store and see all the dresses on their own rack and I start going through my size and then I come across a cream strapless dress with black at the top with beading and I look at it, it was only 30 dollars and looked perfect for me.

I walk over to the dressing rooms and enter one.  I slide the dress on and see it fits me perfectly and I actually looked good in a dress.  I take it off and put my other clothes on and go out to the cash register and buy my dress and exit the store.

Well that was easier than I thought.
