Blackpaw was in the apprentice den not knowing what to say or do around any of his fellow apprentices.
Around him, Icepaw and Firepaw were off hunting in the highlands of the domed in forest with their mentors, which made him alone with two other apprentices he has never met before: Hawkpaw and Minnowpaw.
The two older apprentices stayed their distance from the pitch black cat that had just become apart of their rank; all they felt was utter disgust from being around him.
What they had against Blackpaw, was their size, fighting skills and their numbers of two against one.
Minnowpaw kept away in his nest in the corner of the den to stay away from Blackpaw, his tail around his paws to not touch even the same ground as him, "Why does a black kit come from a bright family..it isn't right."
Hawkpaw was standing near the entrance, hungrily waiting for the hunting patrol to return with their fresh killed prey, his ear twitching to wait for Blackpaw to say anything.
Already feeling unwanted, Blackpaw laid in a nest to curl up with his chin on his tail, "Believe me, you're not the only clan-mate to scorn me that way based on how I look." He mumbled lowly, then added so he could be heard, "I would be as bright as fire if I could."
"Yeah, well..maybe you're dark forest spawn." Minnowpaw spat slightly.
Hawkpaw turned himself around to stare at the both of them, "At least Blackpaw can possibly blend in better on a hunting patrol than you, Minnowpaw." He pointed out, trying to mess with his gently calm name that differed from who he was, knowing how much Minnowpaw hated his name, "So leave him alone, Minnowpaw, you'll make us starve in the future."
Slightly amused, Blackpaw looked from Hawkpaw to Minnowpaw to eye up how they looked at each other; he noticed that Hawkpaw was trembling slightly from what he said, but understood why he was that way. Minnowpaw, was oddly disturbed that such a rude tone came from a usually sweet and clumsy apprentice and so that fueled a small hatred for Hawkpaw, but still left a small opportunity for his companion to get over himself.
Either way, they didn't want to be around each other as much as Minnowpaw didn't want to be near Blackpaw.
Minnowpaw lifted his head to glare at Blackpaw, "..Alright..Hawkpaw, I'll leave him alone since you brought it up."
"That's good, Minnow-"
"But, he will not make a friend out of me, because I will be the reason he'll be seen as worthless to anyone in Riseclan. From this day on, I will promise to the both of you that I will be the best warrior and apprentice Thistlestar's 6 lives he will ever see." Minnowpaw promised like he said he would to both of them, fire in his yellow eyes.
The silver apprentice turned away to face the wall and ignore the other apprentices, curling up to take a nap.
Now that it was just Hawkpaw and Blackpaw amongst thrmselves, they stayed quiet to look at each other until Hawkpaw broke the silence, "Maybe..you should rest too..you became an apprentice, after all..my ceremony was so loud and uncomfortable that I almost fell off the high rock.."
A small purr came from Blackpaw before he stretched one last time, then began to drift off into a peaceful nap until his brother and friend would return.
Blackpaw woke up to smell an ugly scent that he had never smelt before, but knew what it was from Shadekit's descriptions.
Right now, it was obvious to tell that Blackpaw knew where he was..The Dark Forest.
"He-hello?" Blackpaw stuttered to say, but it came out as a cracking sound, "Is anyone there..?"
The black apprentice looked around in the thistle field that where he stood was just a flat grassland with very few scattered trees that only added up to four, dying trees with a rounded hole at his side that formed the middle.
His ears twitched before a red, small tom cat approached him.
Blackpaw hissed as he got low to the ground in an awkward stance that he thought was a battle form, after all, he had no training yet.
Amused, the tattered red tom stepped closer, "What will you do, pounce me after you fall forward?" He laughed then got into a more skilled battle stance, "Copy me: left paw out, back straight, belly low to the ground, tail flat and right paw brought closer to you."
"Why should I trust you." Blackpaw hissed.
The tattered apprentice ears went back behind his head, "Because you and I have a long way to go for getting along with each other. So, let me help you."
Still not convinced but not left with many options, Blackpaw did as he said withb every effort he had to show this tom how resilient he was, "Who are you."
"Tatterdpaw. You and I have the same mentor now." Tatterdpaw explained.
Behind Tatterdpaw, Thundertail stepped out with his one ear pressed to his head to not draw a nerve to Blackpaw from his appearance, "Hello, Blackpaw, it is so good to see you..I have heard so much about you."
