Beyond the stars and rippling of various shades of stone reflecting off in a pool of water that was the moonpool, was still and flat, almost untouched for moons.

While deep in the tunnels were unbalanced movements along what used to be even stone floors, but later becoming craggy uneven steps for two cats journeys to the moonpool.

“Are you ready, Twistedpaw? This is your destiny.. To no longer be an apprentice to a warrior anymore due to your accident, but you will be my apprentice instead.” The one slim gray tom said to the other tom as he still lead the way through the tunnel, then added, “Aren’t you excited?”

The younger tom, Twistedpaw, limped slowly after his soon to be new mentor.

Yet, struggling from the uneven stone beneath them and the following pace inside the cramped tunnel.

Instead of showing his true side to how he actually felt about becoming a medicine cats apprentice and giving up his dream to be a warrior, but couldn't because a flaw of his birth, Twistedpaw stayed quiet in sadness.

The slim leading tom let out a sigh to understand the sadness through one young toms mind, “Twistedpaw, you’ll be as much of a hero as you’d be if you were going to be a warrior, you’ll be patching up your clanmates for their next battle and they’ll thank you for it, I promise.” He said over his shoulder with a flick of his whiskers.

A feeling of slight new found pride and joy washed over Twistedpaw as he now excitedly waited to be a full apprentice for the medicine cat, “Yes, Sootpelt.” Twistedpaw mewed, beaming.

Although Sootpelt wanted to add something else, the two were already in the mighty presence of the illuminating moonpool.

From being told by Sootpelt before entering the cave, Twistedpaw stayed silent like he was told ahead of time.

With one nod from Sootpelt, Twistedpaw limped slowly to the moonpool to slowly entice himself to drink a little of the power the pool possessed.

Another instruction, was for Twistedpaw to lie down before the pool and dream peacefully and to await for the presence of a starclan medicine cat to grant himself a new name and the rank of being a medicine cat apprentice.

And so, Twistedpaw laid flat on the cool stone floor with his head on his paws and allowing his eyes to droop and soon drift soundly off to sleep.

Moments later, Twistedpaw awoke in a strange place of stars and other shimmering lights that eventually became the formation of another cat.

In emensce awe, Twistedpaw’s eyes widened towards the cat that turned out to be a she-cat he has never known; instead of opening his mouth to say anything first, he gracefully bowed his head in respect to the she-cat.

Uncompared to Twistedpaw’s twinge of excitement that was still there from Sootpelts promise, the she-cats eyes darkened in disgust towards the broken tom.

“Salutations, I am Froststep, I will be your guide and follow you always.” She murmured, wanting so desperately to say how she truly felt, but continued kindly, “From this day forth until death, you will be given the name Twistedfoot and become a medicine cat apprentice to Sootpelt, like many moons before when I trained him and before I was trained, as well.” Froststep said, “Do you vow to heal and take Care of the lives of your clanmates in Riseclan forever until death, Twistedfoot?”

Twistedpaw, now Twistedfoot, replied happily to Froststep, “Yes.”

Froststep nodded her head as she slowly turned away to leave until the world grew dark; there was no traveling wind throughout starclan anymore, the air became sticky and hot that made Twistedfoot cough and the stars burned out completely.

“Froststep, what’s happening?” Twistedfoot meowed in confusion, then asked, “Am I not fit to be a medicine cat?”

A cold shiver ran along Froststep’s spine as she turned around to face Twistedfoot again; except this time, her original pale green eyes now burned towards him with an unsettling fiery green of her lost sanity.

“Death.” She choked out to say, “Clans will die along with the forest, innocent cats and kits will perish in a sickness that will be incurable all because of you!” Froststep spat with her fangs glinting with rage.

Twistedfoot almost prepared himself for some kind of blow, but it never came even after he ducked his head in his paws, “Please, let someone else be the burden, I only want to serve you!” He whimpered sadly, pleading for her prophecies mercy.

Very few stars woke from the Ill slumber and so they shown barely throughout Starclan again.

Froststep ears tucked back slightly towards Twistedfoot’s sacrificial plead to curse another innocent cat instead of himself.

The two became silent with each other until Froststep slowly let out a sad sigh.

“Alright, the prophecy is now upon another that is not yet born; his pelt will be black as night and like his soul, his eyes blue as ice and his heart cold as stone. Is this really what you want, Twistedfoot, to curse another cat with this prophecy besides yourself?” She asked once for him to decide for himself.

Twistedfoot’s ears flicked up along with his head as he stood short feeling awful, he nodded.

Froststep’s tail lashed side to side: sending Twistedfoot back to Sootpelt and the moonpool.

With a jolt, Twistedfoot opened his eyes and gasped for air desperately; he looked around and behind him to see Sootpelt dozing off to sleep, but was woken from Twistedfoot’s start.

Sootpelt stretched boredly, “Well?”

Twistedfoot looked down not knowing what to say; would he tell his new mentor that he gave a burden that was on himself to a not yet born innocent life, or would he start with Froststep’s full prophecy before he got to the curse.

Twistedfoot sat up to stare towards his mentor with a fake expression of enthusiasm, “I’m Twistedfoot now and I’m a medicine apprentice now!”

Sootpelt purred happily for his apprentice, “Let’s go home.”

Sootpelt already started stalking towards the tunnel to leave Twistedfoot moments of himself.

The medicine cat apprentice looked off into the moonpool towards himself in disgust, he hung his head in guilt.

What am I going to tell them all when the kit of black pelt is born? He thought to himself sadly, following Sootpelt out of the tunnel.
