"I hate her."

"I hate him."

chapter 1

BETTY COOPER

I was walking to school with my best friend Veronica, or as we are better known to many, B & V. Most people also see as that archetypal 'Perfect Girl Next-Door', but in reality, I'm far from that. I'm consumed in deep thought, losing track of everything else around me, as I do a lot to be perfectly honest, before V snaps me out of it.

"Betty?" She says, waving her hand in front of my face, "Betty?!" She says, stopping and waving her hand with even more force. Realising that I had yet again zoned out, I looked up at my best fried, snapping back to reality.

"Sorry," I said shaking my head as continued on towards school.

"What were you thinking about?" She asked, concern lacing her words. I Thought that maybe I could tell her, I've thought it many times over. But I just can't. Not yet.

"Umm, nothing important," I said shaking my head on as we continued towards the doors of Riverdale High. We burst through the doors as our happy, gleeful selves, but that bubble was soon shattered by a sight that came right in front of us, though unfortunately Veronica didn't have the same immediate reaction. We saw my childhood best friend, Archie Andrews, standing with Jughead Jones. I hate Jughead Jones with a passion. But while I had been reduced to pure anger, Veronica was standing next to me, looking over at the boys, a glint in her eye and her fingers giving a seductive wave. But this wasn't uncommon. V and Arch are dating, and have been for a while. You'd think realistically that me being best friends with both of them or hating Archie's best friend would throw quite a few spanners in the works, but it doesn't. I really am happy for them. Jughead is my problem. V soon notices the anger boiling up within me, and her love for Archie reduces to concern for me, for the second time this morning.

"Are you okay, B?" she asks.

"Yeah I'm fine. Just lets go, okay?" I say, and she nods. We re-link arms and walk past the two standing on the side by the lockers, and as we pass, V slows a little, her arm still hooked on mine. She leans into Archie's ear, her lips gently touching his ear lobe and whispers 'see you later'. I would be weirded out, but this is very normal behaviour for them. I roll my eyes as she turns back around towards me, and we laugh, walking off towards the student lounge.

ARCHIE ANDREWS

I watch as Veronica and Betty walk away towards the student lounge.

"That girl is something else," Jug says once the girls are out of earshot, as he leans back on his locker, with me standing next to him.

"Yeah," I say, looking back at where she was, "she's definitely something." As I stared down the hallway away from Jug's eyeline I could feel his mocking digging holes in the back of my head. "Man just stop it," I say as I turn back around to face Jughead.
