"Sami I'm about to go on air. Keep everyone out and let me know when Alec walks in," I tell her as I enter the recording booth.
"Aye Captain! I'll make sure that the ship stays ships shape and ready to go!" she mocks.
"At ease mate," I joke.
"Eloise!" Ryan calls me, jogging to catch up with me.
"Yes Ryan?"
"I...have...news...." His words are caught between breaths as if he ran all the way here.
"If it's about the Winter's Ball I really don't want to here it. Go talk to Jess about it. She the lead for that whole project."
"Its...not...about..." he takes a finally huff and gets himself together. "This has nothing to do with the school."
"Ok...so why do I care?" I question, tilting my head and raising an eyebrow.
"Because this is so much bigger than the school."
"Ryan find the point, I have work to do."
"The mafia set up shop here."
I burst out laughing, "The mafia? Like as in Al Capone and prohibition and the 1920's?" I double over. What kind of idiot does this guy take me for?
"El I'm serious. I wouldn't have told you if it wasn't true."
"And what source did you get this from?" I manage to get out between laughs.
"On my walk to school. I live over by a shipping dock and I overheard some men talking about an incoming shipment. A drug and weapons shipment. And this isn't your government approved overseas transaction. El the only way this is going down is through the mafia. I already did my research here," he hands me a file with a stack of papers inside. "I really do think that this is something big."
I hesitantly take the file from him and eye Sami for her advice. She shrugs and nods towards the papers.
"Alright, I'll take a look at it but if this turns out as a bust, you are taking the heat and I'm putting you on survey for two months do we have an understanding?"
"Yes ma'am," he gulps. "You will not be disappointed I promise."
I enter the room and start planning out everything I am going to talk about. This is not my first time doing an interview, but Alec is very different from the other subjects I'd had to deal with. Trust me, I'm had to deal with some stubborn people before and I've managed to make it out alive. This one on the other hand, isn't exactly stubborn but he finds this to be some cruel game that I didn't know I was playing. I start pressing buttons and as I'm putting on my head set I hear a knock on the door.
"Its open!" I yell.
Sami crakes up in the door in behind her step in Alec. He's wearing his usual leather jacket with a black and red shirt and black Nike high-tops. I wonder how many leather jackets this kid keeps in his closest. And then I think of where I can find myself one.
"Mrs. Waltz will like to see you now," Sami teases.
I laugh a little, "Thanks Sami, come in Alec."
He steps in side and Sami shuts the door behind him. I stand up to greet him holding out me hand. Realizing my action and remembering my near-death experience, I quickly place it back down on my thigh. He smirks at my awkwardness.
"Hey," I utter out.
"And a hello to you too," he winks. "Let's get this over with already."
I take my seat and hand him my spare set of headphones. He sits down across from me, taking him in his hands. Putting my own pair on, I turn on our mics and press a red button that puts us on air.
