Rooftops Really Are Amazing

"Hi Susan," I smile and wave as I walk over to my usual booth at the café.

"Hello, sweetheart. How are you this evening?"

"Wonderful and yourself?"

"I'm doing great. My granddaughter Lucy just won her junior league soccer tournament."

"That's amazing Susan!" I encourage as she brings me my usual lemonade. I come here so often I have the menu memorized.

"What will it be today darling? The usual salad?"

I nod, "Yes, please. Thank you."

"Would you like me to tell Al you're here?"

I blush, "No, that's alright. I don't want to distract him or anything."

"Oh, nonsense. He'll be excited to see you. He talks about you all the time. Practically waits like a dog at the door for you to walk through."

I blush some more, "Really?"

"Why of course. I'm sure he's a wonderful boyfriend," she giggles. Susan reminds me of my grandma if my grandma wasn't such a hypocrite. She makes everyone who walks in feel welcomed and being in her presence is remarkably soothing.

"Oh!" I exclaim. "We aren't dating."

"You're not? Could have fooled me. I'll get your order right away sweetheart," she smiles warmly before turning away. "You, young people sure don't know how to just settle down," she says to herself but obviously loud enough for me to hear her. I sip my drink and pull out my laptop to start working on an article for my blog.

"Alright Chicago," I begin typing. "You know what people aren't talking about? Sex."

About a quarter of the way through I notice someone standing over my table out of the corner of my eye.

"Hey there Bunny," Alec says, placing my salad in front of me. He also sets down a blueberry muffin and slides into the booth, sitting in front of me. I smirk before closing my laptop.

"I didn't ask for this," I question, pointing to the muffin before taking the wrapper off it and taking a generous bite.

"On the house," he shrugs.

"You sure? I know it's only three bucks but still."

He shrugs again, "Trust me, it wasn't my idea."

"And here I thought you brought it for me out of the kindness of your heart."

"Well," he smirks, "she suggested that I get you a chocolate chip one, but I remembered you saying that blueberry is your favorite."

"So, you do listen to me," I say sarcastically.

"Every word," his voice filled with seriousness.

I cover my mouth with my sleeve to hide my smile and push the now empty plate to the side. I pull the bowl with the salad closer to me and start to eat that.

"I'll be right back alright," he says, standing up from the table.

"Oh alright," I respond nervously.

He shakes his head playfully before walking into the kitchen. Three minutes. Five minutes. Ten minutes go by and he still hasn't come back out. My salad bowl is almost empty by not and I push it off to the side. Pulling out my laptop I do a bit more typing before leaving. Just as I am finishing up, Alec sits back down on the other side of the booth. In front of his are two plates. One is empty and the other one has the biggest burger I've ever seen with a mountain of fires on the side. I fell like I'm going to be sick. He cuts the burger in half and places it on the empty plate along with a few fries. He slides the plate in front of me and begins to devour his food. I cautiously slide the empty plate to the side.
