Chapter 4

Melissa watched Zach carry another box from the truck into the kitchen. She'd decided that the best thing she could do for herself and the fetus growing inside of her was to find a place for herself and Zion. It didn't take her long to find a place where'd she'd feel comfortable and buying furniture for the apartment was also exciting and made her realize that their home needed to be redecorated. That was if she ever made it back over to the house that her and Zach once shared.

Zachary placed the box of pans onto the counter and he felt another pull of his manhood. The only woman that he wanted to make sure was always taken cared of was moving out the home they'd created. This went against everything within him. He wanted to tell her to get her ass back in the truck and that she was going to stay in the house. He knew his temperament was one of the reasons why she decided to get her own place in the beginning.

"You're so fucking stupid." Zach mumbled to himself remembering the things he said to Melissa while they were in the bathroom. In the moment, he didn't think that it would cause her to leave but the very opposite. The fucking baby was making her do shit she never thought of before.

"Yes you are." Sheila stated as she grabbed a bottle of wine from another box on the island. She didn't know the child she'd raised would turn out the way Zachary did and she was ashamed. "How do you expect your wife to have an abortion and then tell her she can't use any of your money on something that your semen produced? That's not how I raised you Zachary Leon."

"Mama, we don't need another child." He watched her open the twist off wine bottle and took a swig straight from the bottle.

"That's where you're wrong Zach. You may not want one but Melissa did and you should've been considerate of that."

"A lot of shit has been happening Mom. Work has been too stressful and sometimes I need to deal with the stress that it causes." Sheila put the wine bottle down and narrowed her eyes at her son.

"You better not have fucking touched her."

"No! I've thrown things at her though and have instantly regretted it." Sheila's mouth fell open at the thought. She'd wish Melissa would've told her everything that was going on so it would've been put to a stop from the first occurrence. "I'm scared she might file for divorce."

"Could you blame her?" Sheila asked crossing her arms across her chest. "You guys separating is for the best. It gives you the space that you need to make sure you don't treat her the way you have been and it gives her the chance to make a name for herself."

"What if the independence pushes her to someone else?" Zach asked voicing his biggest fear. Though he knew Melissa was pregnant it didn't stop her from being delectable. He knew how beautiful his wife was and it was the reason why he felt like he'd won the lottery when he finally got her to agree to go on a date with him.

"Then she would've come across that person one way or another Zackie. You just have to continue to fight for her. Give her a reason to want to stay with you and most importantly if you're serious about keeping her then go to therapy." Sheila took another swing at the wine bottle. "Without therapy there's no use for you even trying to reconcile. She needs some type of reassurance that you won't take out your work stress on the only person that actually cares about your well-being out here in California."

Zach nodded silently taking in what his mother was saying. He knew that she was right about everything and hoped it was enough to save his marriage.

Melissa slipped on her three inch closed toed heels and smoothed her hand over blouse. With her slightly rounding belly she was afraid that she'd get judgmental looks walking through the building on her first day on the job. Lissa plopped her purse down on the island and gave Zion two kisses on the forehead before grabbing a piece of bacon off of his plate. "Where's grandma?"
