Chapter 5

"Mommy, you look beautiful." Zion stated with big doe eyes. Melissa felt a tug on her heart strings and placed a kiss on Zion's forehead. The compliment was the much needed confident boost that Melissa needed. At 18 weeks, her growing belly was fully rounded out and the dress she was wearing was a snug fit.

"Thank you baby." She ran a hand over his curls and stood up before bringing him into a hug.

"Daddy told me that we don't know if I'm going to have a little brother or little sister yet. Is that true?" Zion asked with his hand on Melissa's belly. Zion's excitement from when she told him about a new little one has been adorable. Every day Zion has placed a kiss on her belly. "So the baby will grow." He'd originally stated as if it was a plant that needed to be watered daily for growth.

"That is very true. We won't know until the next time we get to see him or her." Melissa stated as she secured her necklace around her neck and placed her earrings in her ears.

"When is that?"

"Another two weeks." Melissa stated causing Zion to gasp and groan before falling to the ground. Melissa stepped around Zion on the floor and sat on the bed before grabbing her heels on the floor by the bed. "Why are you on the floor Zi?"

"Grandma says time passes by faster when you look at the ceiling." Melissa giggled and shook her head.

"Are you sure grandma doesn't tell you that so you won't talk during her show?" Zion sat up on the floor and looked at his mother processing the information. Finally trusting in his mother Zion got up to get much needed answers.

"Grandma!" Zion shouted stomping his way out of Melissa's bedroom as she continued to get ready for tonight. The first week at the firm has been a bit of an adjustment with her home life but she was loving the change. She was currently working on a case with another attorney just as a way to wake up her insights before taking on a case on her own. She didn't mind at all though since it was also a good way to get to know her coworkers; who thankfully cared for their clients as much as she aspired to.

Melissa grabbed her black knee-length apricot coat and ran a hand over her dress picking at the area around belly to make sure it wouldn't become uncomfortable halfway through the night. She was wearing an off shoulder navy blue dress which was also knee-length with a pair of black pumps. She styled her hair in a low bun earlier and felt like it reeled in the look perfectly.

She decided to bring Zach along with her since they've been getting along amazingly. The past 2 weeks of their marriage Melissa felt loved and appreciated again something she hadn't genuinely felt from Zachary. Melissa believed the thing that jumpstarted her coming around to Zach was the therapy sessions that they've been attending together for the last three weeks.

Though she was no fool. She knew that he hadn't fully changed and didn't want to move back in knowing that without a therapist she'd get yelled at for things out of her control. She couldn't always help the fact that she didn't give the exact answers that he always wanted. Melissa was just happy that Zachary now didn't solely rely on the number of commas in their bank accounts to keep her happy. She grabbed her clutch, which only had room for her flip flops, ID, and two of her bank cards before making her way downstairs.

"Va-va-voom," Sheila stated as she fanned herself with a bright smile spread across her face. "I see everything is popping tonight."

Melissa felt her face get hotter due to the compliments and couldn't contain her smile. "Thank you mama." The person who made her body feel as if she was engulfed in flames was Zachary. His stare was penetrating all of her senses. Awakening her hormones that have remained dormant since they've split.
