Evelyn woke up to the glare of a burning light,to find seven worried faces staring down at her.
"I love being suffocated by you idiots." She croaked sarcastically causing the Octavus to step back a little and Janak to laugh.
"How are you feeling." Sirona questioned staring down with concern.
The truth was that Evelyn felt terrible. Her throat was scratchy, her head heald a dull pain and her body felt in pain.
"Fine." She muttered lifting herself up, she noticed a guilty looking Nathaniel. "What happened?" She asked staring right at him.
She knew exactly what happened but she wanted him to feel much worse about it, and by the look on his face he did.
"Well..." Sirona started awkwardly. "Magic used on you makes your health deteriorate much quicker, and..." She looked over at Nathaniel as if asked ing for permission, he glared back warning lg at her. "Well, who wants cake, because i do." She burst stepping back making Evelyn roll her eyes.
"Sirona!" Zana snapped, then looked over with a smile to Evelyn . "It doesn't matter Evie, you're fine now."
Despite telling them she was fine, Evelyn was annoyed at Zana considering she really wasn't fine and Nathaniel had hurt her. Nevertheless she ignored the screaming pain and pushed herself into her feet.
"Yea, Im feelin' brilliant." She muttered pushing through the crowd to the door to find Ezrah leaned back on a chair.
At the sight of Evelyn he jumped up from his seat slightly startled.
"Um... Evelyn." Amusement took over Evelyn's features as her friend scratched his neck awkwardly. "How you feeling."
"I'm fine thank you."Smiling she replied.
"Good good." He nodded darting his eyes around the corridor. "They wouldn't let me in." He confessed motioning to the door holding the octavus.
"Why not?" Lyra frowned only for Ezrah to shrug.
"Guess they don't want an Odiosis around." He chuckled awkwardly.
Evelyn rolled her eyes knowing that what he was saying was probably true.
"I don't mind you being around." She smiled for him to return one back.
From behind the hospital door opened revealing a suspicious Nathaniel. At his questioning looks Evelyn became annoyed. She couldn't do anything without him judging her it seemed.
"Yes your highness?" Ezrah spoke non-chalantly. Nate raised an eyebrow at his bluntness, it wasn't everyday that a guard or an Odiosis wasn't scared of the prince.
But Ezrah has no reason to be, Evelyn wouldn't let anything happen to him.
"Shouldn't you be training or something?" Nathaniel referred to his job as a guard in training.
"Cayden let me off for the afternoon." It was the Beltor who was the octavus in charge of the guards.
"Did he now?" Nathaniel muttered moving his hand to the back of his head before shifting attention towards Evelyn. "You should go to your room and rest." He nodded towards her.
"Yes your highness." She bowed sarcastically and turned towards Ezrah. "Thanks again Ezrah. I'll see you later." She waves as he smiled back at her.
Nathaniel watched his heart still throbbing in pain at the sight of her retreating figure. Anger seethed through him as the non-magical being next to him stood up to leave.
"When i'm king the odiosis will know their place." Ezrah's breath caught in his throat and he gasped when Nathaniel lifted his hand causibg a force to push him back towards the wall and groan in pain. "Better." Nate muttered before leaving Ezrah alone in the hallway.
All the way to his office Nathaniel seethed with anger, he had her body but had no idea how to get her heart.
Pushing the door open he was startled at the sight of his father smiling in his chair.
"Nathaniel, come sit." He greeted.
Nate had never been very close to his father, he didn't get much of a chance. Whenever they conversed is was only ever about work or his image. Calling the king 'dad' didn't seem right for him to do.
"Father." He acknowledged taking a seat in front of his father with reluctance. "What's with the visit." Nate remained stoic as his father grinned.
"Can't a father want to spend time with his son?" He laughed banging his hand obnoxiously on the table.
Not in your case.
Nathaniel thought but never said out loud.
"Of course." He smiled dryly at his father. "Now what is it you would like to discuss." His father smirked pushing himself up off his chair to stand by the window.
"The attacks on the Odiosis." Nathaniel stiffened in his seat after hearing this.
It was no secret that certain magical groups resented the non-magical. Attacks, threatenings and even murder was not an uncommon crime to commit. Even Nathaniel believed Odiosis were below the Novus' such as himself. But to kill because of this believe was something he never considered.
"What about the attacks." He question the king who twirled a pen in his hand. Nate knew the deaths of the Odiosis' pleaded and even amused his father. The king was a sick man.
"They're apparently getting worse." Nate could. tell his father didn't really care about the deaths.
"So?" The King stopped turning his pen to look up at his son. "What does it matter if the attacks are getting worse?" Nate was becoming impatient.
"You're soon to be king."He pronounces proudly. "I want you to be involved in all important discussions. Since the dawn of time the Odiosis and the Novis have been at war and it is us Rexes who have to deal with the problems."
"I don't understand."Nate furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "I thought the feuds had decreased significantly. The non-magical brings had given up. "
Shaking his head the king looked up at his son with a grim expression.
"For a while, yes, they were. However since the industrial revolution, the humans think they can match our power with machinery." The king spat.
"That's outrageous!" Nate declared as he watched his father stand to his feet and walk slowly around the desk until they were eye levelled. They had almost no height difference.
"They won't get too far son." The King practically whispered. "I won't let them."
"What are you planning father?" Nathaniel questioned, half curious and half worried.
"Me?" The king chuckled. "I'm one man, which is why i've invited an important guest to the palace and I would like for you and the other young odiosis to assist him during his stay."
"You want me to babysit?" Nathaniel couldn't help the bitter tone spewing from his mouth.
"Don't fight me boy." the king's patronising words only angered Nate further. However he held back and let the King walk around him towards the door.
"Yes Father."
"Oh." The king remembered before leaving. "Your lover, the partum..."
"What about her?" He wasn't in the mood to speak of her.
"Keep her on a tighter leech would you." He sighed as if ashamed of his sons behaviour towards Evelyn. "Soon you shall take my place as the most important and powerful man on the planet. One girl shouldn't be this hard to handle." He chuckled as Nate laughed bitterly.
"Have you met Evie." He scoffed at the king's ignorance. "I'd sooner control the direction the earth spins than control her."
