A Dog and Chicken's Reprieve

(Y/n Pov)

  I had some pigeons scout out around the park and there wasn't any one in the area so we made our way towards a few stairs made of stone. "I smell blood nearby (Y/n) and... booze?" Dotsuku spoke. I instantly clutched onto my Cockscomb tightly as we sneakily made our way down the stairs. He peeked over the stone wall that went along the stairs and flinched a bit. "Sheep is dead" He responded before standing up. "Wow how many people are we down by now so there's Snake, Boar, Sheep... and that's all we know right now. My birds haven't found anyone else dead yet. One of my birds have spotted ox going into the bank place that Horse was hiding... I hope he's gone by now." I said before looking back to Dotsuku. "Wait why do you care if he dies? You didn't forget that we have to kill everyone else for us to win right?" He reminded me causing me to slowly nod. 'Monkey, I don't think I can bring myself to do it,  but I don't think i can bring myself to kill her' I thought to myself. "Hey whats that look on your face it's as if you forgot that we need to kill to win." Dotsuku reminded me again. I nodded hesitantly as we headed over to examine the body. It seems that he had his stomach torn apart in one strike... "I feel like this was Tigers doing... This seems like a very feral attack." I stated as I noticed a strange object next to sheep. I let out a silent hum as I walked over and picked it up. "That's a bomb by the way" Dotsuku responded as I picked it up. "Oh then you take it." I said as I tossed the bomb over to him. He had a panicked expression on his face as he tried to grab the bomb. Luckily he caught it and let out a sigh of relief and shot me a glare. "Do you even know if this was a bomb that was a contact explosive!?" He yelled causing me to flinch a bit before realizing I could have just killed him. "Oh no... I didn't mean to throw it if it was then you would've been..." I stopped for a moment. Why do I feel so anguished about this. I felt a tear prick my eyes causing me to wipe them away quickly. "Hey, hey I'm alive right so no need to cry right?" He quickly said waving his hands frantically. "H-Hey why have I been so damn emotional suddenly I never felt like this before!" I said this to him a little louder causing his ears to flick a bit. "The One Man Army bite i did to you doesn't just enhance your strength, but also your mental state" He answered as he looked away. That would explain it... "So how long does this last?" I asked as I took a few breathes to calm myself down. "It should be wearing off soon." He answered while shrugging a bit. I nodded before looking over to the bench and noticed some wine bottles nearby. Was someone getting drunk? I sighed and looked back to Dotsuku who wore a calm expression as usual. "It's not okay though that I almost killed you Dotsuku and you know that". I stated as I stared at the ground. He let out a low growl. I think he's getting annoyed by now. "I told you plenty of times it's fine, so stop apologizing already." He growled out. I opened my mouth only for him to bare his fangs a bit, causing me to instantly shut it. "I just... don't want to have to be the only one to get out of this. I just want to be able to take one person out of this with me since we can't save everyone, as nice as that would be." I stated as I closed my eyes. I could feel tears welling up. Why did I have to chosen to participate in this game. Father never listened and mother only could comfort me from the pain of training i was forced to endure. I heard footsteps in front of me that stopped. I suddenly felt a warm embrace causing me to open my eyes quickly. It took me a moment to register that Dotsuku was holding me in a tight embrace. "You know you were shaking right? Figured you were cold..." He muttered near my ear.  I felt a chocked up sob make its way out of my mouth, and before i know it the tears were start to fall. I hid my face in his shoulder and wrapped my arms around him as I began to cry. He began to rub my back slowly. He let me cry for a few minutes before I lifted my head up and sighed before resting my head on his shoulder. "Y-Your damn power sucks making me emotional and stuff"  I muttered earning a chuckle from the dog eared man. "Didn't hear you complaining about it when you go all the birds in one general area to get that zombie eaten now did I?" He joked before releasing me. "Sometimes my daughter needs a hug so i figure you needed one." he said with a smile tugging at his lips. "Wait what you have a daughter?" I said with a shocked expression. "Yes I do I was a preschool teacher at the time and-" "Wait you were ALSO A PRESCHOOL TEACHER!?" I said with even more surprise written on my face. "Is that a problem!?" He said with as he scratched his head. "N-No not at all please continue." I said trying to stifle a laugh earning a low growl from him. "Anyways... Due to an oversight in one of my missions she was taken by a pedophile so I had to go and save her." He explained to me. "That's so sweet of you Dotsuku!" I said with a smile gracing my face again causing him to smile a bit before looking a bit to the left. "It would be terrible of me to just leave her there ya know?" He said as he shrugged a bit earning a nod from me. "I'm sure your wife was happy you both returned home right?" I said feeling a sharp pain in my heart for some reason as I asked the question. "Wife? Oh no I'm not married I take care of her by myself. I took her in since she didn't have anywhere to go." He stated while laughing a bit. There was a light blush gracing his face that looked a little adorable on him, that's something I'm never going to tell him though. "Well out of curiosity, what would you wish for if we win?" I ask him. "You mean when we win? And I would wish to protect my daughter, that's all." He said making me let out an "Awwww" causing his face to heat up even more. "I-Is there something wrong with wanting to protect someone!?" He asked defensively. "N-No I didn't mean that it's just so nice of you and you kinda look all..." You tried to make some sort of intimidating look earning a laugh from him. "You look ridiculous you know that?" He asked causing my face to heat up. "Pfft whatever." I muttered quietly. "So what would your wish be?" He asked me. I never really thought about a wish. "Um... I'll get back to you on that..." I responded before walking over to a park bench and sitting down far from Sheep's body. Dotsuku soon joined me and seemed puzzled on what I was doing. "Hey why are we just sitting here? keep in mind you are on a timer ya know?" He reminded me. "I know, but there are very few times we can just sit around and do nothing ya know? Why not do it now, besides we still have a lot of time and I'm sure most of the players are killing each other. Plus do you REALLY want to run into Ox?" I asked. Both of us let out a shudder and I held my arms at the thought of being on the receiving end of that sword. I sigh and look up at the stars before turning and leaning onto Dotsuku earning a questionable sound from him as he stiffened up for a moment, but he quickly relaxed. "Hey Dotsuku can I take an hour long nap please?" I asked. He looked down at me as if I asked him to kill himself or something. "Really right now?" He asked  "Dont worry *yawn* I'm sure the big bad wolf can defend a chicken while she rests right?" I asked before dozing off.

(Dotsuku's POV)

Did she REALLY just fall asleep in the middle of this battle? Whatever not like I can't hear anybody coming our way anyways... She must be pretty damn tired to be falling asleep at such a dangerous time. I looked down and noticed she was soundly asleep with not a care in the world. I let out a sigh before adjusting her down into my lap. She instantly nuzzled closer to me causing my face to heat up a bit. She's so weird...
