"can you please stay?" devon pleaded, tugging on michael's arm like a child.
after she had taken a shower and changed into a fresh pair of clothes, michael was more than ready to leave before she stopped him. "uh, sure."
devon struggled to hide the grin on her face as she retrieved a few blankets from her room. since she was attending a college nearby, she thought it would be a good idea to find her own apartment and live on her own, which she later regretted because she had spent many lonely nights in the dark.
"you can sleep down here or you can sleep in my room, whichever is more comfortable," she informed, and michael nodded, not moving. "well, good night. thanks for everything."
devon pursed her lips and prodded back to her room, feeling disappointed at his lack of words. that is, until she heard the footsteps trailing behind her. she turned around and gave michael a puzzled look.
"i can't leave you alone. i want to make sure you're okay," michael explained, cheeks growing red.
she nodded, biting her bottom lip. michael felt butterflies fluttering in his stomach, but he was unsure as to why he was feeling this way. he had a girlfriend that loved him, and he loved her back just the same. but he just couldn't deny the fact that he had fallen in love with devon's sassy attitude and occasional sensitivity as well.
he followed her into her room, which was decorated with many soccer trophies. "do you play?" he asked, pointing to one of the trophies.
"not anymore. i quit in high school."
"why, did you suck?" michael joked, giving her a goofy smile.
she reached over to smack his arm, giggling quietly. "and for that, sir, you can sleep in the living room."
"wait, i take it back! i bet you were amazing," michael said quickly, diving onto her bed. devon sat next to him, not quite sure what to do. she felt a pair of strong arms wrap around her torso, pulling her down next to him. she squealed in surprise as michael's hot breath fanned her face. "you still are amazing," he said quietly, and devon wasn't sure if she was meant to hear that.
she twisted around in his arms, putting both hands on his chest. their faces were inches apart. "i think you're the one who sucks, michael clifford."
michael pouted, looking up at her behind his lashes. "no, i think you do. but the only thing you should be sucking is me." devon's eyes widened in shock while michael's eyes widened in embarassment. "oh my god, did i just say that out loud?"
devon couldn't resist the feeling that came over her as she held back a smile. instead she put on a serious face and stared into his deep green eyes. "just kiss me already."
and with that, their lips crashed together, molding and fitting like pieces of a puzzle. michael's hands trailed down her back while devon explored his stomach, reaching under his shirt to feel his toned abs.
michael's lips left hers as she let out a groan. he left small kisses along her jawline and down to her neck, causing her stomach to do backflips. suddenly, his lips left her skin altogether as he pulled away, staring at her in disbelief.
"i have a girlfriend," michael reminded her, even though it sounded more as if he were reminding himself. "i can't do this, i have a girlfriend. she's going to kill me."
devon tried to push away the jealousy and sadness that washed over her, simply nodding at him in agreement. "right, you have a girlfriend that you love. right."
michael gave her a sad smile, opening his arms for her again. "none of this ever happened, right?"
she returned his smile with a fake one of her own, scooting into his arms. "what never happened?"
