Chapter 1: The Hero

Jesse gripped tightly onto the Wither Storm's black tentacles; hanging sideways on them was not easy. Her enchanted sword from Ivor glowed with magic.

She prepared to stab the weapon into the command block and destroy the Wither Storm for good. Just as she was about to, a Wither Storm head, that had somehow stuck itself inside its own body, growled in anger, and the whole Wither Storm shook. Jesse wobbled and her the sword fly out of her hands and towards the ground.

"NO!" She cried, "Not yet!"

Reuben snorted in surprise as the weapon clunked onto the ground close to him. Suddenly, upon seeing her pig, a light bulb seemed to flicker to life inside Jesse's head.

"Reuben!" She yelled as the Wither Storm grabbed her foot, turning her upside down. "Remember when we used to play fetch?"

Reuben sat up. He seemed to understand and picked up the sword in his mouth. Up he jumped, each leap carrying him closer to Jesse. When he tense, ready to leap to her, he noticed a gap between the two threatened to send Reuben plummeting to his doom.

"Come on, buddy! I'll catch you!" Jesse said.

Reuben worriedly took a running start, leapt into his owner's arms.

"Good boy, Reuben!" She gasped, taking the sword from Reuben, holding on to her pig tightly.

Jesse readied herself to jump to the command block. Suddenly, the monster gripped Reuben by the legs and shook him violently. Reuben squealed in terror and reached for Jesse.

"No!" Jesse yelled, clinging to Reuben's front hooves. As Reuben struggled, both the Wither Storm and Jesse lost their grip and Reuben went plummeting down into a huge black hole.

"Reuben!" Jesse screamed, reaching out to try and catch her pig. Jesse, now somewhere between breaking apart from sorrow and exploding with anger, stabbed through the command block. A shining white light flash as Jesse fell, the Wither Storm pixelating out of existence.

Reuben grunted as he shook off the effect of a hard landing and stood. He had landed in a large pool of water. He snorted the salty liquid out of his nose and quickly swam his way to land.

A smiling redhead ran to the edge of the water. "Jesse!" Petra cried defiantly, pulling a sleeve off her left arm. "My Wither Sickness is gone!"

"Oh, Petra!" Olivia grinned, wading to the swallows. "I'm so happy for you!"

Reuben squealed as he shook off water droplets and ran to congratulate his friend as well. He looked back, expecting to see Jesse swimming towards shore. Jesse wasn't there. Jesse was nowhere to be seen.

Petra started to realise that too. "Jesse?" Her smiled melted as she glanced around the old cavern. Petra stopped, "Wait," hearing a painful groaning noise echo from a corner of the cave.

It was Jesse, curled in a ball. She had fallen onto stone when she dropped the from the Wither Storm. Fall damage racked her body with torrents of pain. Reuben swiftly trotted to her side and nudged her arm, trying to get her up.

"Hey, buddy." She smiled through the tears and pet his head weakly.

"Jesse!" Petra came sprinting at full speed, skidding to a stop at Jesse side.

"J-Jesse?" Lukas slowly proceeded toward her.

Olivia softly sobbed when she came close enough to see Jesse. Axel, shocked, fell to his knees, cradling Jesse in his strong arms.

Petra leaned down and took Jesse's hand. "Jesse... we're gonna get you home. We're gonna fix this."

"I want you to lead the team, Petra." Jesse said softly.

"What? No! You're gonna be fine. Every thing's gonna be okay." Petra said, tears forming in the corners of her eyes.

"Jesse." Lukas started, holding back tears of his own.

"Thanks Lukas." Jesse stared into his azure blue eyes. "You've been a great friend."

"Jesse, don't leave." Axel begged. "We need you."

Jesse could only grasp his hand, weakly squeezing it.

She painfully smiled up at all of her friends, took one last breath, and her eyes turned glassy and empty.

"Goodbye Jesse." Petra closed Jesse's eyes with her fingers. "You were a hero."
