Soma's POV
Silence...
It was as though time itself had frozen, locking the moment in place. She stood over me, arms holding out a bow, arrow nocked, aiming at the vajra's mouth. The vajra looming above us, fangs gleaming.
In a heartbeat, it was over.
The vajra's teath closed round her left arm, sinking deep into her flesh. A gasp escaped her lips at the weight of the vajra and she fell to one knee, body straining as she hovered over me, keeping the vajra from reaching me; her body acting as a wall.
She tilted her head slightly towards me as her body began to tremble, blood beginning to run down her back, a sea of crimson.
A shuddery breath; "Rule one of survival: never let your guard down." she choked back at me.
Then, with a growl, she let her arrow fly.
What?
The vajra's grip began to loosen as the life began to drain from its eyes, It's once powerful body disintegrating.
She had shattered the core, killing it instantly...but how?
A look of triumph filled the girl's eyes as she realised her arrow had struck true. Then she gasped in pain and threw the body off of her as her body began to buckle.
I reached out and caught the girls body, lowering her head onto my lap, as she began to loose consciousness due to lack of blood.
"Looks liks I'm grounded." she coughed, blood staining the once white snowy ground. She smiled painfully up at me.
For some reason, I felt like an injured animal; I wanted to get as far away as possible, anything to escape the pain in my chest as I watched the fluttering bird slowly lose her senses.
Oh God. Let her loose consciousness soon.
I frowned at her winged back, the feathers now matted with blood and jumped when the wings suddenly shattered, feathers flying in all directions.
Her eyes opened wide in a wimper of pain and I finally saw her fully for the first time. She was about my age, but her hazel-grey eyes were full of all the sufferings of the world. Her eyes...are like mine.
For the first time ever, I tried to make small talk; anything to distract her from the agony she must have been suffering.
Normal POV
"...What's your name?" he asked, looking up at the snowy sky to distract himself from the death scene.
"Lupa, and you?" she replied.
He hadn't really expected an answer, so he took a moment to reply.
"...Name's Soma."
He caught the sudden sound of a helicopter, he couldn't help but feel sick, knowing what he would be going back to if the helicopter found him.
"Don't be scared," Lupa suddenly murmured, stroking his cheek with a bloody hand, as though she had sensed his fear. "Whatever they're doing to you, I'll stop it. You need someone to teach you...the value of your life...and...give you a reason...to live."
"Tch. Sentimental fool." he muttered, but couldn't keep the doubt from his voice. Could an angel even help him now? Did she really think she was going to live long enough to save him from this hell? And why was she here anyway?
The helicopter arrived, but it wasn't the scientists. Thank God.
Two God Eaters leapt out of the copter and into the snow; one a tall young man with black hair, who casually hopped out smoking a cigarette, the other a young woman, who immediately rushed to the boys side.
"Hey, easy now." she murmered as the boy jumped, as though awakening from a trance. He glowered, holding the girl's limp body protectively.
"You're too late now." he growled."Just go the hell away."
He then promptly fainted from cold, or exhaustion, or shock, or something, which made getting both kids on the helicopter that little bit easier.
