To Zoé, a trés cool person.

The World Ends With You is a really good game. This is the opening. Finally, sorry this chapter is so short. It's cos I rewrote it and omitted about 3/4.

Lupa's POV

I waited for the elevator to arrive, frowning in impatience. I needed to find somewhere quiet to empty my mind.

Soma joined me in the elevator, hitting a floor button before I could. "Hey!" Irritated, I glowered at him.

The elevator stopped, opening out onto an almost empty floor. "Come with me." Soma ordered. I rolled my eyes but did as told. He typed in another door code, and I shoved past him to see the room.

Or rather, the not room. I gasped, slowly stepping out the door. Beautiful flowers bounced beneath my feet in the garden.

I felt joy bubble up, and I laughed as I did an awesome cartwheel into a round off, flipping over and then stopping to lie in the grass. Ahem. Not like I used magic for that.

The sweet flowery scent surrounded me as I lay there, peaceful.

"...this place good enough to meditate?" Soma asked. He was frowning down at me, hands in pockets. I couldn't resist.

"It's perfect!" I leapt up, wrapping my arms around Soma's neck. The second time today he would get bombarded by girl hugs.

"W-what the hell?!" he pushed me away, looking alarmed.

I sat against a willow tree in the garden, waiting for my mind to empty. Soma was sat a little way away from me, pulling up grass.

I slowed my breathing. "So is God actually Buddha?"

"Eh? What gave you that idea?" it was unusual for Soma to open a conversation, even more so about beliefs.

"You're meditating." I guess I couldn't deny that.

"Do you really want to know who God is?" I asked.

He averted his eyes and continued to pull up grass. "If there is a God, I don't want to know him. He's deserted us."

"Well, I'm here." I pointed out. "I must be here for a reason."

"Right."

"If he had really deserted you, then why are the angels watching over you?"

I remembered the lessons given to me when I was first doing weapon training.

As an angel, a creature of pure light and good, your job is to ensure peace throughout different worlds, for me generally meaning fighting demons.

Demons are creatures of twilight, and represent the essence of evil.

Our opposing sides represented the very nature of worlds, the balance of light and dark, good and evil.

"But you and Jack...you're different from most angels and demons."

"You're right. We aren't just 'good' or 'bad' like we should be, we're the closest to having human souls out of all angels and demons." I smiled a little.

It was something that Jack had talked to me about, the fact that angels were so intent on seeing the word as needing to be fully light, that they forgot that darkness added depth to the world.

The fact was, there was darkness hiding within angels too.

I had experienced the effects of their darkness first hand.

"I'm not sure what the Almighty was thinking when he planned out my role as an angel, but I trust him." I closed my eyes. "After all, I got to meet you."

He went quiet. I went back to meditating, but my mind was in a jumble. Questions I always left unanswered resurfaced.

If this was God's plan, why did my brother die? Where did his soul go? Would my wings ever return? Would I ever be able to go back to the heavens?

Did I want to go back?

And Jack...

How was I going to save him?

Soma gently shook my shoulder and I woke up from my trance. I sighed. "Nothings coming."

"We've got a meeting with Old man Sakaki now." I blinked. What did he just call him?

We met the others in the lobby. "Any luck?" Sakuya asked.

"No." I gave an even deeper sigh.

Sakaki showed us a presentation about the new aragami, but I only really concentrated on their names.

The bear was a Darshear. The snake a Darfang and the beetle a Darhorn. The naming theme was very... apparent.

Ari looked bored out of her wits, tapping her nails on the table to emphasise her impatience.

"...Darkness mumblemumble light info info info aragami..." I kinda focused in and out of the talk.

"OH LOOK, A UNICORN!" Sakuya shouted, pointing at the floor in front of my desk.

"WHERE?!" I shreaked, leaning forwards. Lindow slammed my face into the table. "Ow..." I groaned.

Aria jumped to my aid, leaping on Lindow's back as I tickled Sakuya. "HOW DARE YOU JOKE ABOUT UNICORNS!" I shouted at her. She giggled helplessly. She was pretty ticklish.

Soma face palmed, but we weren't about to let him miss out. "Pile on!" Aria shouted, jumping onto Soma. She was joined by everyone, not including Sakaki.

Sakaki sighed before leaving the room. "Just go vent out your energy."

"Arigato!" I scurried out of the room, Ari running after me. Soma lay half dead on the floor.

I backtracked. "Ehm, you okay Soma?"

He slowly stood up. "I swear, if I get attacked by one more girl today...!"

I hugged him again. "Sorry for everything dude."

"You lot are hopeless." He pushed me away.

Sakuya aided me. "We may be hopeless..."

"BUT WE'RE HOPELESS ABOUT UNICORNS! " I finished.

"I give up." Soma left the room, battered and bruised. The hopeless unicorn girls stayed there giggling, before following.

Lindow looked scared again when he saw the crazy kids. He just had to put up with this until they tired themselves out and went to bed.

This did happen eventually. Lupa and Soma left the others to their mini party, Lupa feeling depressed now she had used up all her energy.

She curled up in bed, trying to get an early nights sleep, but it was not to be.
