It was dark in Synyc's room back at the Rebel Base. The only light was from the Hologram projecting from his table where he was painstakingly watching hacked security footage, reading police reports, and anything else he could find that might relate to this Dark Soldier.

The bags under his eyes were massive and he was on his third cup of coffee. His brain kept running but his soul was too tired to process anything. This only made him more determined to stay up and figure this mystery out.

At some point during the night his door opened a crack and revealed Corr on the other side.

"Somehow I knew you'd be up," he said with a smirk.

Synyc finally looked away from the glowing screen and over at the man in his doorway.
"Is that coffee in your hand?"

Corr sat down across from him at the table and set two cups down, one for him and the other for Synyc. "Yep, decaf."

Synyc went to take a sip but then set it back in the table suddenly. "Decaf?! I need to stay awake."

"You need rest," Corr replied sternly.

"No, I need to figure this out before more people get killed!"

"Well you can't do that when your brain isn't functioning! You look like a zombie!" Corr leaned forward across the table, trying to seem more convincing.

"But this Dark Soldier thing has killed so many people. Now they almost killed Evander and Flint and that's way too close to home. We need to destroy them." Synyc went to put his fingers back on the keys but Corr grabbed them away and held his hands instead.

"Synyc, I know that this seems like the right way but it's not. You need to rest so you can be at your top game. Then an answer will come."

Synyc closed his eyes and took a deep breathe. "Why do you have to be right all the time." He looked up and smiled cheekily.

Corr smiled back and stood. "Hop into bed."

"There's so much caffeine in my system I don't think I'll sleep for a solid hour," Synyc replied with a chuckle as he stood.

Corr pretended to check a fake watch and then smiled,"Hm, I have an hour."

Synyc laughed and playfully poked his nose. "You'll just keep me up longer."

"I promise I won't. We'll just hang out until you fall asleep," he said innocently as he sat on Synyc's bed and patted the blankets.

Synyc groaned, despite the smile on his face. "Fiiine." Then he walked over and crawled into bed, laying beside Corr. He fell asleep much quicker than he thought he would. Corr felt a weight resting on his shoulder and smiled as the Zeltron leaned against him. Corr fell asleep too. Everything felt calmer when they were together. Calm and safe in the midst of a war.

Meanwhile, Flint and Evander were put up in their new room. It wasn't as well furnished as the others since they were brand new, but it was surprisingly spacious. They even had a window looking out over the vast land around them.

Flint had fallen asleep relatively quickly, like always, but Evander never found sleep. The darkness in his mind took over his thoughts. They did pretty often but he was almost used to it at this point.

Every night his heart ached for the love he'd lost; Alda, Jolie, and Synyc. Even though Synyc was safe and sound, which made him immensely happy, it didn't make everything okay. At least had the closure of knowing there was no chance of Alda coming back. He never found out what happened to Jolie. She had just disappeared. Again. But this time it was against her will. Or was it? He didn't know. The whole situation had become too much to try and untangle.
