"Let me get this straight — Evander and I were together? Before I got taken nd have been for the past few weeks?"
Corr and Synyc nodded from where they were sitting. "Yeah," Synyc said.
"Can you just explain more about how you're feeling?" Corr asked in his doctor voice, a datapad in hand. "About Evander, the Rebellion, the Empire, your time as an assassin, anything."
"Well," she started with a strained face. It looked to them like she had to physically reach into her mind to pull the memories back out. "I love Evander, but I don't think I'm in love with him. I feel horribly tired. I can mostly remember everything else. There's minor holes in the memories, so some of the pictures are fuzzy in my head," her eyes dropped a bit, a look of guilt crossing her face,"but I remember everything I've done and I can't sense the Force anymore."
Corr nodded as he diligently wrote some things down and Synyc gave her a reassuring smile.
"I know this must feel crazy," he said.
Jolie chuckled. "I feel like the two people that used to be in my head are both one again, but something's missing. I don't know if it's a good or bad thing, but I've never felt this peaceful. It's as if my mind has finally one again."
Synyc wasn't sure what to say, but luckily Corr came to the rescue. "How about we go for a walk? Wayland is great. Everyone's been so kind helping us out."
Jolie smiled a bit and stood up on her shaky legs. "Sounds great."
Evander had read Corr's notes. Synyc had sat him down and explained everything.
Based on her new, clear explanations of her feelings, they figured out Jolie had actually been turning slowly to the dark side since she left the Jedi Order, and that was the version of her that fell in love with Evander and been turned into an assassin. There was a disconnect because of her midichlorian situation. She essentially was a different person.
"So she doesn't love me anymore?" Evander asked with diminishing hope.
"I'm sorry," Synyc replied. "She did love you. And she still does. It was just another version of her that loved you in a romantic way — a much more damaged, unsure version that needed your undying support."
Evander processed what Synyc had told him, and how he managed to make the words seem less hurtful.
"I know," was all he could say. It was true. He knew he and Jolie would always love one another, but the romantic aspect of their relationship seemed to be over — just like that.
"But who knows, maybe—"
"Stop," Evander said softly as he ruffled a hand through his hair out of stress. "Don't give me hope. I don't need it, or want it quite frankly."
"What do you need? Or want?" Synyc asked. "Anything. I know this has been infinitely hard on you."
Evander smiled to himself softly. "Go have a nice time with Corr. Go out to eat or something. Just go enjoy the few days we have left before we go back to Yavin."
Synyc blinked away a tear and smiled. "Are you sure?"
Evander smiled, wholly this time. "Positive. You and Corr deserve a vacation."
Synyc nodded and stood. "Okay. For you. But if you need anything, you call me."
Evander spent the day walking. He wasn't sure where and he didn't know for his long. He didn't even know if he was walking away from something, or towards another thing entirely. All he knew was that the sun was setting and everyone would be worried.
