I feel like it's pointless to have two author's notes, so I'm going to quit this one and just do the one at the end.

And a typo: I said it cost five thousand a year to live in the mansions, I meant five thousand a day. It's fixed now.

Chapter 6: Missed it by That Much

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

McKayla's POV

Frozen. If I could use one word to describe what I am now that would be it, because even amidst the chaos, I feel like a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming car. For a moment.

Time seems to catch up to me as I process what's happening, and what I need to do: run, as fast as I can to save Hanna. So I begin to sprint across the big room we're trapped in.

Unfortunately, something very important has escaped my memory, something I had feared would be the end of my existence after the games.

My bum ankle.

I feel myself propelling through the air after wobbling on my unstable ankle, and with a bone rattling smack on the marble floor, I land. On top of someone else.

Of course, that's when the lights come on. And who else but Matt would I fall on? He's lying on his back and with me, on my stomach and I'm holding his hands.

I feel my knees turn to jelly when I look at his beautiful eyes. He stands up, helping me to my feet. I feel the electricity at his touch.

"Now then, decided I'm better than your boyfriend?" Matt jokes, seemingly out of character for him.

What? He isn't making any sense. Boyfriend?

"What do you mean?" I question him.

"You know, Zack being your crush and all," Matt says, still making less sense than a pet rock.

"Oh, um, yea... he isn't my boyfriend though," I lie. Well I sorta stuck to the truth, but every lie has some truth, in this case being that Zack isn't my boyfriend. I really don't want to tell him that he's my crush. "But sorry I fell on you,"

Matt's POV

"But sorry I fell on you," she says.

She looks so perfect, he shiny hair cascading down her shoulders like a waterfall.

I'm still mad at her, though. Even though she is so nice to me, we're still enemies .

But when she fell on me, I was so tempted to kiss her, tell her she was beautiful.

Maybe I should say something?

McKayla's POV

I see Matt staring at me, looking like he's gonna say something, when I spot Zack and Hanna near a corner in the room.

What happened to her? And, more importantly, why is she with him?

My head is racing with a thousand questions as Simon calls our attention.

"According to our friends here, we had a slight malfunction with the lighting, and it's all fixed now," he says.

I look at Zack again, and catch him smirking. Now I know something's off.

Okay, question of the day - Katt (Matt + Kayla) or Mack (Zack and McKayla) let me know what you think!

Sorry about the shortness of these chapters, I've been way busy recently.

I need 2 votes and 2 comments this time. You won't get an update until it happens.
