Chapter 7: Wild Style

Chapter 7: Wild with Style

---------------------------------

McKayla's POV

After our small incident, Ellie introduced us to our stylists and then she, Hanna and Simon left.

Kaylie and I share a stylist, while Matt and Zack share another.

Hopefully he'll have an actual sense of style because last year, the seventh grade girl dressed in 10 inch heels and micro-miniskirts and bra tops. That's definently not my style. But Matt might like it, at least.

"Hi, my names Raymond and I'll be your stylist for the parade," a man dressed in a black tee shirt and white cargo shorts tells us, as he shakes our hands.

Raymond has blond hair, styled in a quiff, and bright green eyes.

"Nice to meet you Raymond, I'm Kaylie, and this is my friend McKayla,"

"You can call me Kayla," I say. That's what my family occasionally calls me,
but Raymond immediately made me feel at ease.

"First, we'll get you prepped."

He hands us what looks to be hospital gowns, and instructs us to go change.

After we've changed, a team of three women come in and begin to pluck our eyebrows, file our nails, scrub our legs, etcetera. It's very painful, but also very quick. Finally, we're sent to change into our normal outfits because it's time for lunch.

At lunch, we meet up with our group and served whatever we wish. I pick lobster, something I've never had before.

It's difficult to crack the shell, but the meat inside is worth it. Whilst dipping a piece into butter, I ask everyone about how their prepping went.

Kaylie complains on and on about how horrible it is, Zack shrugs, and Matt says that he felt like a chicken, being plucked and pulled of all his feathers, to which I laugh. After getting several strange looks, manly by Matt, we stand up and leave.

Now it's time to decide, with my stylist of course, what were going to wear. We sit with Raymond.

"Now, for the parade, I want to do something original, and... unique. So I was thinking something that showed either the innocence of your youth, or played on the idea of your recently gained maturity. "

Kylie states the obvious,"So, basically, you want us to, like, dress up in either a ball gown, or ribbons and pink."

Raymond continues. "However."

"Here it comes..." I think.

"However, according to the rules of this semester quell, we must design 12 outfits, or three per tribute. Girls chose the boys outfits, and vice versa."

"How does this possibly tie into the Quell's theme?" Kylie asks Raymond.

I answer. "Simple- it doesn't. They're only giving you a chance to get ahead."

"Right. If you do well, and choose the most impressive outfit, you'll get more sponsors, and therefore jump ahead. Choose poorly, it'll also affect you. Here are the choices."

Raymond takes out two small flip books, one for Matt and one for Zack.

"McKayla, who would you like to choose for?" He says.

"Matt", I say without hesitation.

Raymond hands me the book with Matt's picture, and Kylie, Zack's.
When Raymond looks away I slip out Matt's photo. Yep, he's hot.

In the book are three picture of possible outfits. Picture one is a tux. Too plain. Number two is a simple plaid shirt and jeans. Too boring. But Three is perfect.
