As Kei accompanied the boy's back to the barracks, multiple different superiors and lower-class waved at him or said there respects. The group was amazed.
"How come you're so highly respected here? You're just a corporal..." Tamaki squeaked out, really not expecting a reply.
"Because most of the men that I work with were in the war. They know what happened..." Kyouya cocked his eyebrow and opened his mouth before getting cut off.
"They know I lost the only damn person that ever really helped me. And yes Kyouya, you may ask whatever you want." Kyouya gave a pleased smile before leaning against the railing of the metal bed frame.
"Who did you lose?"
"My corporal." He said softly as he yanked a picture down from under the mattress above his own bunk, handing it to the raven-haired male. Kyouya looked at it before remembering his father talking about it three years back.
"This is the man that went to find a soldier that was MIA... Correct?" Kei nodded slightly.
"How could you have stopped him from dying? It's not like you were th-" Kaoru and Hikaru spoke up but were soon cut off.
"Yes... I was the Missing soldier he was looking for... I was deployed to battle, three weeks after being there the enemy ambushed my barracks at night... They grabbed me. I made sure the others got out... They had me held up in a warehouse for a few months... Then they dragged my corporal in. He said to me if I talked, even when they said they would kill him if I didn't, he'd never speak to me again if and when we got home... I kept my mouth sealed shut. They killed him. So yes, I was there, I could have stopped it, I didn't, that is the only reason I am still with the military. To make it up to him." Kei said stiffly as he slid a clean shirt on. The group around him stopped and looked at him Kyouya spoke up.
"The only reason is to make it up to him?" Kei nodded slightly and sighed heavily.
"Originally I had planned to stop being in the military come my seventeenth birthday. Then when Corporal Koten died... I always said I'd be there for him... When he died... I promised myself I would be with the military as long as I could be..." He said softly. He sat on the bunk as the group looked at him in shock. He looked up with a questioning glance.
"What?" Kyouya opened his mouth but closed it again. Kei let another sigh out before looking up at them. "Would you guys like to meet my family?" He asked softly while looking up at them. Everyone nodded with soft smiles, even Mori. He got up and motioned them to follow him out to a truck, which he got into the driver's side after signing the truck out.
Kei started driving when everyone was in the truck, keeping a good speed as he left the army base, one arm out the window, other being used to steer. He let a breath out as he drove down the familiar rodes to his adopted parent's place, after about twenty minutes he pulled into a driveway before turning the car off. Motioning the group to get out he followed them before leading the group to the front door and knocking.
"Just a moment please!" A soft, kind sounding voice was heard from inside before the door was opened. "Yes? How may I help you?" The girl only looked about thirteen or fourteen, light blonde hair and shining green eyes as she opened them.
"K-Kei! Welcome home bubby!!" She yelled before jumping up and hugging him around the neck. Kei smiled and laughed softly, hugging her.
"Hi Mai... How have you been kiddo? I brought some... Friends..." He said to his little sister before walking inside, carrying the girl in his arms, making her giggle and smile.
"I have a boyfriend~," She said giddily, before pointing into the living room.
"His name is Drake..." She said dreamily, the boys behind Kei caught her eye, jaw-dropping as she stared at the group of handsome and cute boys.
"You... Brought me an early birthday present... Right?" She asked with wide eyes, looking from her brother to the group, Kei shook his head.
"No Mai... I'm protecting them. You can't date any of them." She huffed and pouted, wiggling out of his arms and running over to the living room. Kei followed behind, the group following behind Kei slowly. A boy, the same age as Mai, sat on the couch before looking up at Kei and standing, bowing slightly.
Kei motioned him to sit back down with a slight smile. Moving to make sure everyone got comfy on the couches and chairs, the twins sitting on the couches armrests as they looked around. Mori sat between Honey and Tamaki while Kyouya and Haruhi took their seats in some chairs nearby. Mai and Drake sat across from the full couch of boys, Drake going back to talking to Mai and scrolling on his phone quietly.
"Where's mom, Mai?" Mai looked up and smiled at him before responding softly. "Upstairs in her room at the moment." He nodded, looking at the group before nodding and going upstairs. Kyouya took to asking questions to Mai.
"Kei-senpai doesn't really look much like you, why is that?" Mai hummed as she smiled. "Kei's adopted... Mom and dad adopted him when he was ten after his parents where killed in war.. He's... Come from a long line of military men and women..." She whispered, smiling at the group. "He seems so much happier with you guys though... Like he's finally relaxed after what happened with Corporal Koten..." Kyouya let a small breath out before nodding slowly.
"It's nice to know we relax him I suppose, where's your father?" Mai looked down as Drake excused himself, saying he had to get home, Mai nodded and waved him goodbye briefly before returning to the question.
"My dad was with Kei during his special ops last year... He uhm... He was killed... Kei came home and personally told us... It tore us apart for a bit.. But we're good now.." She mumbled softly, looking up and smiling, shuffling being heard, followed by soft talking.
"Kei, sweetheart. Look at you. You look exhausted. Have you been sleeping well?" Kei let a soft, deep chuckle out as he walked into the living room again.
"Yes, mom... I'm sleeping perfecting enough... We had PT's not too long ago.." She sighed and nodded, cupping his cheek before letting go and smiling to the boys and girls that occupied her living room.
"Hello! You must be under Kei's protection I assume?" Kyouya stood and bowed a bit before answering.
"Yes, that is correct... We all are under Kei-senpai's protection.."
