Chapter 6: Shock
In the span of four weeks, things were slowly starting to get better for me. I've been spending more time with Evan whenever I possibly could and he's been helping with school work and some Mark related panick attacks. My grades have gotten significantly better and my 'battle scars' as Evan calls them have been slowly reducing. Mark's things have been reducing in my home and I was ever so thankful for that, but somehow he still manages to stay a night or two under the same roof with me and that scared me out of my skin.
Right at this very moment I was sat behind the wheel of my mother's car that was parked in front of Evan's home, fuming because of the arguement I just had with my dad over the phone. I didn't want to knock on his door while I was still pissed but the longer I sat here, the later I would be. I let out a sigh before I pulled the key out of the ignition and got out the car.
I walked up the path and raised my hand to knock once I was in front of the door but before my knuckles could touch the varnished wood, the door flew open to show Nathan. I frowned.
"I saw you walking up the path," he said to my confused expression and I just nodded. We stood there for a few minutes or so without saying anything.
"So... you gonna let me in or...?" I trailed off and his eyes opened wide.
"Oh yeah, sorry," he said quickly as he backed away from the door so that I could finally walk inside.
"So what are you doing here?" he asked me as I made my way into the living room.
"I always come here on a Saturday but you're never home. So shouldn't I be the one asking you that," I replied with a shrug.
"My plans got cancelled," he shrugged but then frowned. "Wait, why are you always here?" he asked suddenly.
"Evan and I always--"
"Ava?" I was interrupted by the calling of my name.
I turned to see Evan making his way over to me from the basement door and a grin made its way onto my face. I completely forgot about Nathan who was still standing by the still open front door and made way over to the other Knight brother so that I could give him a hug.
"You're late," he scolded me jokingly once I pulled back and I rolled my eyes.
"I was dealing with some stuff," I told him with a smile but my tone was slightly serious and he picked up on it, just like I knew he would.
"Stuff," he said warrily and I shook my head.
"Later."
"So guys...?" Nathan's voice spoke up and Evan and I's heads snapped up and out of our own little world, then over to Nathan, the front door now closed.
"What are you two going to do?" he continued to ask us and Evan and I shared a look before I answered.
"We're gonna watch some movies in the basement," I told him.
"You could join if you want," Evan shrugged but in his eyes I could see something else and I wasn't all too sure as to what.
"That would be great," Nathan grinned and together, we started to make our way over to the basement door.
"Wait!" I yelled when we were halfway down the steps.
"What?' Nathan asked.
"Popcorn."
"Already down there," Evan responded.
"Oh. Okay, well then onwards!" I yelled and we continued down the steps.
