Dealing with non-writers take finesse and talent. You have to remember that their brains work normally and they are only capable of normal mundane thoughts. Yes there are some exceptions, especially in the creative world, but most people you'll come across will be of the normal variety. Please remember that they mean well, they just don't understand you.
If someone comes over and interrupts you while you're writing, hide your anger and be hospitable to them, remember that you can use your anger in your writing once they leave. If they have the audacity of asking about your writing you can either give them a vague overview, go into great detail and hopefully bore them to death, tell them to go away, or ignore them. Just try and remember that non-writers don't know the rules of respect.
If your family gets mad or doesn't like the fact that you're always writing, remember that to them writing won't pay the bills or do the chores. They don't understand the value of writing. It's best to just do what they say and if you're really serious about writing then wait until late at night and pour out all your thoughts then. You may think what you write at two in the morning is crap then, but some of the best stuff is written in the dead of night. Just remember that they don't understand you so it's best to just listen to them instead if fighting.
Most if all though, when dealing with non-writers find peace in the fact that at the end of the day you're the one with the pen. You have the power to send them over a cliff or have them eaten by a dragon, figuratively of course...
