The title says it all, and yes even the greats like Stephen King and J.K. Rowling procrastinate when they're writing. All humans will procrastinate at leas once in their lives, I just feel that writers procrastinate more frequently. So what exactly do the geniuses in language do to procrastinate?
1). Stare at the ceiling. Yes, even writers will stare at the ceiling. Sometimes we'll do it when we have writer's block. Sometimes we'll do it when we're under a deadline. Heck, sometimes we'll do it when we're working on a novel.
2). Play games/apps. Writers (at least me) love to play games, whether it be mind games like Professor Layton, RPG games, Apps on our mobile devices, first person shooter games, or online strategy games. We can, and unfortunately will, play those games all day and not write a single word.
3). Read. Being writers (at least the serious ones) we love to read. We will read anything we can get our hands on, especially if we're working on, or starting, a project. In our minds, reading is an acceptable form of procrastination because we are honing our craft by reading the works of others (and yes we will count cereal boxes as reading too if we're desperate).
4). Work on other projects. If we're in the middle of a project and a new idea pops into our mind we will stop working on the project we were working on to start the new one. Sometimes those ideas come that we start working on comes from reading the writings of others...
5). Making lists. We will literally make lists of things we want to write or things we want to do just to procrastinate. For example, I was about to start working on my novel when the idea to write about how writers procrastinate popped into my mind. So I stopped what I was doing and put it on a list.
Obviously there are many ways writers can procrastinate, but I can't share them all on here. If I did, then non-writers will know when I'm procrastinating and call me out on it...
Bye my Lovelies, happy writing, don't procrastinate~Shadow
