Dealing with the dreaded Writer's Block

There are times in every writers career/lifetime when they either have to write or want to write but no words will flow, these times are called Writer's Block. Yes, I know it is scary and many of you may be experiencing it right now, but worry not because I have tips that will help you win the battle against the fiery dragon, WB.

1). Write to your heart's content. You may wonder how this is possible, but trust me this works. What you do is you set a timer for 10+ minutes (I would suggest going no longer than 10-15 max your first time so you're not too daunted by this) and make a promise to yourself to not stop writing until the timer goes off. If you cant think of anything to write at first, start by writing about that. Don't edit and just follow your thoughts, even if you don't get a chance to finish one before moving on to... Dogs are awesome creatures, but there is just something about their wolf-en cousins... Has anyone seen my unicorn? It's pink and fluffy... <--- See what I mean? If you write like that at least you're letting the words flow.

2). Don't write anything. This may seem counter productive to number one on this list, but just stay with me. If you have Writer's Block from writing too much and you're having to force your words, it's best to just take a break. Read a book, draw, paint, get out of your room and go for a walk (Yes I know the sun is bright and the world is scary, just think of it as gaining valuable experience for your writing), do whatever you need to to get your mind to relax for a bit.The theory behind this is, if you let your mind rest and don't force your words, you'll be less likely to have to completely re-edit what you wrote.

3). Write whenever an idea comes to you. I don't care if you're just about to slip into dream land, if an idea pops into your head, write it down. For example it is 2:06am EST on August 9th 2014 as I write this because I was just about to go to bed when this idea popped into my head and forced me to write it. The more you practice this, the more stubborn and strong the desire to write the thought will become. (This suggestion is only for those who have ink for blood and know in their hearts that they are meant to be writers).

I know these are only three tips but one, I'm tired and it's after two in the morning. Two, I feel like I'm forcing my words (see number two). And three, I can't reveal all my secrets, I don't want THAT much competition in the writing world ;) With that being said, goodnight my Lovelies, happy writing~Shadow
