Luke walked into the little coffee shop to see Adrianna sitting in his booth reading, just like she said she'd be. He was giddy and excited, he was so happy to see her. Luke wore his usual all black, except he wore a red flannel today. She was wearing black jeans and a black crop top with a red flannel tied around her waist, it took Luke a few minutes to realize they were practically matching, but she didn't care.
Luke hoped this date would go well, except it wasn't a date. It was just a guy and girl having coffee. Actually, neither of them were really sure what this was. They'd only known each other for less than a day.
To avoid awkward silence Luke made a list of questions for Adrianna. It's pretty lame, most of the questions are like 'what's your favorite color' or 'cats or dogs?' Luke was never very good with interesting things to ask. He just made everything more awkward than it needed to be, he's just awkward all together.
"Hi." He smiled as he sat down.
"Hey." She looked up and closed her book.
"Hi." He said again, she have him a confused look and he cleared his throat. "So... I made a list." He pulled out the piece of paper that was folded up in his pocket.
"A list?" She furrowed her eyebrows.
"A never-ending list." he reassured her. She rolled her eyes.
"All lists come to an end. And so does everything else." Luke shook his head and took a drink of his coffee.
"Not my list, It goes on forever in my head." He smiled and opened up the paper.
"So you just ran out of room on the paper?" Adrianna motioned to the front and back page which was covered in Luke's writing. "How long did it take you to write this?" She scanned over the questions.
"A few hours," He laughed nervously, "and it doesn't end on the paper, I stopped in mid sentence, see?" He pointed to the unfinished word.
"Wow." She raised her eyebrows, "believe it or not, I'm impressed." She handed the paper back to him so he could begin reading. Luke wasn't sure where to start or if he should skip a few question, so he just went with the most obvious question.
"Okay so I'm just gonna ask questions and you answer them. Like 21 question but... Never ending." He didn't know why he had to explain that. They were just questions. "What's your favorite color?"
"Blue. Like a baby blue, it's nice and calming." She stared down at her coffee.
"If you were stranded on an island what are three things you would bring?" Adrianna laughed at the question.
"Depends."
"What do you mean?" He looked up from the paper.
"Well, is it raining? Or is it all like sunshine and rainbows?"
Luke shrugged, "either."
"I would bring, a book, coffee, and... My cat." She giggled.
"So you're a cat person?" He raised his eyebrows.
"Yeah, was that your next question?" Her eyes flicked to the paper then back at him, he nodded.
"Okay, this next question wasn't my idea. My friend Michael wanted me to ask you," he sighed, "are you a virgin?"
Adrianna practically spit out her coffee and laughed. "No, I'm not a virgin.. And I would love to meet this Michael guy."
"I won't allow you to meet him, he's too weird and perverted." Luke shook his head repeatedly.
"But you're weird and perverted." A wide grin spread across her face.
"What?! No!"
"Are too!"
"Am not!"
"Yes!"
"No!"
"Yes!"
"No stop it!"
"Then explain why you always stare at me, and why you took a few hours to make some list just to ask me questions?" She folded her arms.
"Because!" Luke wined.
"Why, Hemmings?" She smirked.
"Because I like you..." He mumbled as his face grew a light pink.
"You.. You what?" Her eyes widened.
"I like you." He slightly smiled looking up at her. She shook her head.
"No, no you don't. You're just-" her phone buzzed and she looked at the screen.
"Crap." She ran her fingers through her hair and began to grab her things.
"Where are you going?" He asked, disappointed.
"I'm sorry Luke, something came up. Meet me here tomorrow okay? You can continue your list then." She smiled and rushed out of the coffee shop.
What just happened left Luke confused, but then again, he was always confused. Confused and awkward.
