Chapter F o u r

- A l e k s POV -

I was waiting in the patient room with James. The guys happily allowed me to be the one who comes with James to his appointments and what not. I was happy about that so I knew what was going on. James looked worried as he was sitting on the table with the sterile paper. I heard him sigh and I straighted up. 

"You okay there?" I asked him as he sat up and shrugged. 

"I guess. I'm just worried my new treatment isn't going to work." He said to me as I stood up and patted his shoulder.

"We need to be positive, remember? I'm sure it'll work, James." I gave him a small smile as the door to the room opened up. A man with a white coat walked in and sat down. He gave James and I a welcoming smile.

"I'm glad you took my advice." He said as he looked over at me. "Anyway, James, we have a couple new options for you today." The doctor paused and James snapped.

"Well, come on. Spit them out. I wanna hear them."

"Yes, of course." He flipped a sheet on his clipboard and read them off. "We have that you could go more radiation treatments...or you could have brain surgery." James cringed at brain surgery. He didn't speak up or ask any questions so I did. 

"What happens if he chooses radiation? What will be his side effects and what will he enderur?" I asked as James looked at me with thankful eyes. I could tell he was happy I was here other wise he would of never asked. 

"Well, with radiation treatment  a high energy beam will be pinpointed to the tumor in your brain and if it does the job, the tumor should start to shrink. For the side effects, you might expereince hair loss, sickness, and tiredness. It doesn't sound too bad but the sickness is very harsh. We suggest you lay down and rest if you experience it. Do not try to move around and jump all around." He explained and I could see the look on James face. He seemed worried. I was worried.

- J a m e s POV -

I was really thankful I had Aleks here with me. He was doing the questioning for me. To be honest, I was a little scared of what he would say. I really didn't want to do brain surgery but then again I didn't really want to do radiation therapy.

After hearing about radiation, it didn't sound too bad until he started saying the side effects. I didn't want to lose my hair and I didn't want to feel sick. I was always tired so that part didn't matter much to me. I knew that I was going to have to take a break from recording. I'd have to tell them that I've been going through some personal issues and they'd just need to be patient. 

I heard Aleks speak up once more. "What about brain surgery?" I cringed at the thought of them cutting open my head and going into my brain. 

"Well..." My doctor started as he looked at Aleks and then at me. "they would cut inside of your skull and they would enter your brain. They would try their best to get all of the tumor but there is no guarentee that they will get all of the tumor. A lot of complications can happen with this as well. There is a chance you could lose activity in your brain and go into a coma. This is just a very risky procedure. Even afterwards you will have to undergo some radiation therapy. The side effects are coma, like I mentioned before, brain damage, bleeding in the brain, infections, swelling seizure or a stroke." He finished as he let out a deep breath.

I could feel Aleks eyes burning into me. I smiled faintly. "Thank you for giving me my options. I will think about it." I said as I jumped off of the table. My doctor wrote me a prescription and handed it to me. "This will help with your headaches." I gave him a nod in thanks.

Aleks walked out of the room and I was about to walk back as well when my doctor grabbed my shoulder. "James, you haven't experienced it yet but you might start experiencing weakness, clumsiness, and you might start have difficulty walking. There is also a possibilty you might have seizures by how bad your tumor is. If I were you, I would get the surgery." I looked at him and nodded once more before walking up to Aleks. 

"Lets go out to lunch, shall we?"
