~I want to apologise for not updating in over a week. Yes, I'm losing motivation with this fic, but I've also been busy at work and I've had a lot of homework and studying to do. I like to write at night but because I'm usually at work until 9 or possibly even 10, it makes it difficult to getting around to doing it.

~If you're still reading this, then thank you for your patience. This chapter has been a long time coming and I'm glad I've written it. Enjoy!

"I don't know what to do, Sonya," Newt sighed as he complained to his sister. The Coven meeting had ended and they were trailing their way back up to the kitchen. "I think he's suspicious of me."

Sonya's eyes widened at the statement. Her shoulders stiffened as she inhaled a sharp breath. "Newt, you really have to be careful. You can't let him find out-"

"But I'm hurting  him. I'm pushing him away."

Sonya groaned loudly, causing a few witches to turn their heads, as she unlocked her car and opened the door. "If you think that's the case, then break up with him."

Blunt, careless words.

It pained Newt's heart like a dagger.

"I think I'm falling in love with him," Newt whispered. His voice hitched at the end and he felt his eyes glaze over with tears. "I'm falling in love with Thomas."

It was true; Newt loved Thomas. He loved his eyes, how the skin beside them crinkled when he smiled, his lips and the warm feeling of them -the taste  of them. He loved his strong arms around him when they cuddled on the couch or in bed. He loved how he cared for his five-year-old daughter, and he loved how he trusted Newt after everything he went through with Stacy.

"Now I understand why you're so distracted," Sonya came to realise. "Are you going to tell him?"

"No. I want to, but I can't, because I don't want to break his heart when I finds out I'm an abomination."

"Don't say that-"

"But it's true!" Newt snapped. "Our kind don't belong in this world. We never have and we never will." He tore his eyes from his younger sister.

"He loves you, Newt," Sonya whispered so only he can hear. "You might think he doesn't -or he won't- but he loves you. It's in his eyes." She wrapped her arms around Newt and pulled herself into his chest. "Tell him."

When she pulled away, she ducked into the car and started the engine. Newt shut the door behind her and waved and she drove away. He made his way to his own car where Alby waited. Their drive was far more peaceful. The radio played silently in the background as they made small talk.

But Newt couldn't shake the thought of Thomas finding out he was a witch.

Their kiss at Thomas' doorstep was short but sweet. The taste of maple syrup lingered on Newt's lips and he tried desperately not to lick it off. He stepped inside, following the brunette to the kitchen.

"Newt!" Rosanna yelled, bouncing in her chair. "We're having waffles."

"Do you want one?" Thomas asked while he poured boiling water into a mug with coffee grains for Newt.

"I'm alright, but thank you for the offer," Newt replied as he added a splash of milk into his coffee. He took a sip and leaned back against the counter top. The kitchen seemed brighter than usual. Orange marigolds sat in a glass vase on the window sill. "Lovely flowers," Newt commented.

"Teresa bought them. She and Brenda were over last night," Thomas said.

"How are they? I haven't seen them in a while."

"They're fine. Busy with work, though." Thomas paused to take a bite of his breakfast. "Rose and I are going to the park later, do you want to come?"

"If it means spending time with you, then yes."

Thomas' lips curled into a smile, the purest Newt had seen since...he couldn't remember. It suited him. His eyes lit up, the chocolate brown orbs sparkling. "Give me time to clear up, then we can go."

Newt washed the dishes while Thomas dried and stacked them away. Their playlist blasted throughout the apartment and probably into their neighbours, too. It was back to the way it was before; no awkwardness or tension, no strained talk or coldness.

Just them together, forgetting their problems and loving one another.

But it's all going to change, Newt thought, because all that glitters is not gold

----------

Thomas was falling in love with Newt.

He couldn't admit it, not to anyone but Teresa who cried with happiness and advised him to tell Newt. The first time he truly felt as though he could pour his heart out to him was on Christmas day, when he told the blonde about Stacy. He couldn't tell just anyone that.

He gave a piece of himself to Newt who could destroy it at any moment. He allowed himself to become vulnerable because he knew he would be caught and saved.

He knew he was in love with Newt.

Their relationship was an elastic band; it stretched until it almost broke, but it attained it's normal stance after apologies and tears, admittance and shame, holding and forgiving. Of course, it twisted. It was pulled until it almost snapped, but the power of their love saved it.

Thomas linked his fingers with Newt's as they walked along the street. Rosanna swung his arms as she skipped along by his side. Her feet made dainty thumps on the pavement when she landed.

"Adorable," Newt whispered into Thomas' ear. The brunette smiled at the warmth of his breath. It tickled him. It sent shivers through his body and his heart pounded.

They stopped at a set of lights. The road was wider than usual-three lanes on either side. Rosanna pressed a button and they stood at the side next to a vast amount of people. Once the bleeping began, the red man changed to green and they started their walk across the road.

But that's when Thomas heard the sound of two engines roaring.

It started getting louder and faster. People looked around in panic, some scurried to the other side of the cross walk, but nobody had nearly enough time. Two cars dangerously cut through the others lined up. Thomas didn't have enough time to think before he covered his daughters body with his.

He thought it would be the end.

----------

Newt immediately dropped Thomas' hand and ran into the middle of the road. He took a deep breath and let his hands spark with blue lights. They crackled together, feeding off his fear, and the fear of the people surrounding him. It gave him power - power to protect.

He stood side on, his hips squared, before he launched forwards with all of his might. A force-field appeared around the citizens on the road who cuddled each other in fear, or who were still trying to run. He blasted his magic further to strengthen the shield.

The two cars came to a screeching stop, and everyone looked at Newt in terror. Slowly, he lowered his magic and eventually the force field. He staggered back, clutching his stomach and heaved sharp breaths.

He looked over to Thomas, who stood with Rosanna in his arms, hugging her tightly. His face was already stained with tears. Newt took a step towards him, but it was too late.

He was already walking away.
