A missile comes flying in Soldiers direction. It's at times like these I really wish I didn't have these stitches. He see it coming though and jumps out of the way. That was too close. Somethings not right. I take off as the smokes in the air heading for our randevu point.
The Soldier and I walked through the Hydra base. I could tell he was on edge and stressing, he looked like he was about to brake. I halted our fast pace walk, with a hand on his chest. I gripped his chin and forced him to look at me. I took a deep breath, moving my free hand up and down in the air slowly, in sync with my breathing to emphasise he copy. He stared into my eyes and did just that. We stood for a couple seconds just breathing. He smiled a little, though I could tell it was forced. He cupped my face in both his hands and kissed my forehead.
"Thank you." He said in a whisper, still only millimetres away from my head. I held onto his wrists and closed my eyes, hoping the moment could last forever. We pulled away after a couple moments, and continued our journey.
"I think I'm remembering things." He said to me in worry. I looked at him with confusion. He glanced at me, reading my look.
"They've wiped our memories. Using a machine, it's unfortunately where we've been told to meet." He said as he slowed his walk and stared at me trying to gage my reaction. Many thoughts ran through my head. When? How many times? What have they taken from me? Will I ever remember, like Winter, or should I say Bucky? I sighed through my nose. There's nothing I can do about this now. I smiled at him, which shocked him.'It's okay. What do you remember?' I signed to him. He huffed, concentrating on his memories for a second.
"I remember the Captain, I knew him, I think we were friends. A long time ago. And-and I think my name was Bucky." He said with a little stuttering, uncertain of everything. I nodded with a faint smile.
"If they wipe me again. Can you remember those things for me?" He asked softly in a quiet but sure voice.
I nodded as we reached the room and entered."Take a seat and remove your shirt." One of the men in the room said to Winter. He did as he was told, sitting and removing his shirt, tossing it at my feet. I raised an eyebrow at the cloth at my feet, Soldier just grinned. His grin turned into a smirk as he watched the look of shock and awe take over my face as I admired his bare chest. The smile dropped though when a man began to fix up the damage his metal arm had received during his fight with Captain America. His eye flinched, but he made no show of pain. I could tell he had fallen deep in thought, looks of fear and confusion kept crossing his face. He suddenly threw the man working on his arm across the room. I jumped out of the way in surprise and shock. We made eye contact and he looked pained. My heart ached for him and I reached to take his hand, only to have to pull back as guards entered the room guns trained on Winter.
Peirce entered the room, with an angry look, Rumlow trailing behind him.
"Mission Report. Mission report now." He demanded as he paced the small space. Winter looked to Peirce, then me, then back to Peirce saying nothing. Peirce stepped forward and slapped Soldier hard across the face. He barely flinched, though I know I did for him.
"The man on the bridge. Who was he?" He questioned boldly. I started to worry that he might be pushing the limits.
"You met him earlier this week on another assignment." Peirce replied as he turned away from us both. It was obvious neither of us bought his bullshit act.
"I knew him." Bucky said in denile. I gave him a warning look but he wouldn't meet my eyes. I could tell he was coming undone and it broke my heart. He must be remembering things. Peirce pulled up a chair in front of Soldier.
"Your work has been a gift to mankind. You shaped the century." He said as he looked at Winter. Winter only looked to the ground, feeling lost.
"And I need you to do it one more time. Society is at a tipping point between order and chaos and tomorrow morning we're gonna give it a push. But if you don't do your part I can't do mine, and Hydra can't give the world the freedom it deserves." Peirce said, finishing his speech. I looked to the lost man sitting in the chair. Soldier and I made eye contact before he turned back to Peirce."But I knew him." He said again. My eyes filled with tears but I held them back. Hydra doesn't have weak assets. Peirce stood from his chair as Winter turned to look at me giving me a forced half smile, in an attempt to make me feel better. I didn't really work, but I was greatful for his thoughtfulness. Peirce turned to the other men in the room.
"Prep him." He said. Winter and I looked at each other in worry. We knew what that meant.
"He's been out of Cryo-freeze to long." One of the doctors said in confusion. Peirce looked back at the soldier, me then the doctor.
"Then wipe him, and start over." Peirce said harshly as he turned and walked away. Winter looked down in sadness, realising what was coming. He looked to me, this time tears formed in his eyes. He might forget our time spent together. I thought worry now taking me.
"Mm-mm-mm-mm." I made a grunting sort of noise to catch Peirce's attention. He turned to look at me.
"What now??" He asked in annoyance. I turned to face Soldier and signed to him.
'They should not remove all of your memory because all our joint training will be useless, it's best that you still remember me.' I signed quickly. Winter nodded his head at my strike of hope."She said that it's probably best not to wipe everything, because we have been trained to fight together, and if I can't remember her, then we won't be an affective team. It's best we have a combined force." The Winter Soldier said blankly, masking his greatfulness. Peirce looked between us and I knew he saw the logic of it.
"Fine. Take only the last ten hours of his mind." Peirce said before he left the room, Rumlow following. I looked to Soldier with a hidden smile. He tried to return it, but he was to frazzled.
The doctors placed a mouth piece in his mouth to avoid him biting his tougne off. They pushed him back into the machine and switched it on. It clamped tight around his arms as a head piece formed around his head, electricity ran through his head as he screamed in pain. I hastily left the room not being able to bare his screams of agony.
