Chapter 25: the truth

The one thing I remember when I woke up in the morning was how much my back hurt.

I awoke suddenly, my eyes opening too fast for my senses. For a moment, I didn't know where I was. Until I watched the blades of the fan go round and round.

I felt a pressure on my left side and turned my head to see Liv resting peacefully in my arms. We fell asleep. I don't remember falling asleep on the floor last night. Liv's hair wasn't in its normal high ponytail anymore. She must've let it down during the night because her hair was splayed behind her, in its natural golden locks.

I slowly sat up, holding Liv still, and picked her up bridal style and I carried her to her room. She fidgeted as I set her down and covered her with the comforter. I stood by the bed and turned my torso so I heard a crack in my spine. God, that floor really fucked me up.

And a thought crossed my mind.

I could call in today.

I could stay with Liv and spend the day with her. That way I could get so much more focus on researching.

Without much thought, I picked up my cell phone (that I had recently bought with the money I had made from the hospital). I dialed the number of the clinic and surprisingly, I heard Dr. Altman's raspy voice.

"Hey is it alright if I call in? I want to stay with Liv and help her with physical therapy."

"Of course, take all the time you need." His tone turned light right after I asked that question.

I thanked him and hung up, throwing the phone on the bed. Liv would be so happy. But it doesn't mean I'm going to slack off.
