Chapter 14: the favor

Will left after our argument. He didn't say much after I told him off, but I couldn't say much either. The pain from my leg has rendered me speechless enough.

I'm still dumbfounded that he knows about my seizures. But I know he's a doctor and he was going to find out sooner or later, I'm not stupid. I guess I'm just not willing to accept it.

There's really nothing to do in this hospital. Sadly, I'm cursed to stay in this bed until they clear me for any surgeries or examinations. Plus I'll have to stay a few extra days for some physical therapy sessions.

I rest my arm on the metal bar of the bed, only to yank it back, hissing in pain. I keep forgetting about my burns. I've managed to count how many there are and where they're located. Yeah, that's how much free time I have. There are about three on my left arm, two large ones on my hip, one deep burn on my shoulder, and two on my stomach. They're a little tender still, which means any movement triggers a little bit of pain.

I hold my wrist but suddenly hear a noise behind the door. I adjust the covers so they are now covering my naked legs. Hell the hospital gown barely covers all of me.

A face peeks around the door, and my eyes soften at the eyes of my best friend.

"She lives!" Lexi pushes her way through the door and plops down on my bed.

"I came to visit you last night."

"Yeah?" I say grunting as I sit up in the bed with a little struggle.

"One of those grumpy nurses kicked me out." She rolls her eyes and I laugh, holding my stomach from a little pain.

"Don't make me laugh, it hurts." I grin as she scoots closer.

Lexi places a hand on on my arm and smiles genuinely. "But all jokes aside, I'm so relieved that you're okay."

I nod and smile back. I'm not exactly good with Thank yous. The door opens again and Will walks in. But when he sees me and Lexi, he stops in his tracks, a clip board glued to his side. I glance over at Lexi and see her eyes slowly turn into a subtle glare.

Will clears his throat and peers at his clipboard, his eyebrows furrowed.

"I have the reports for any internal damage. It looks to be clear. We still have to get any drug reports down."

Lexi steps up.

"excuse me? My best friend has never ever done drugs. You have my word on that. So don't go around accusing he—"

"I'm not accusing. And I don't think it was intentional on her part."

"What do you mean?" I cut in.

He sighs and presses the clipboard to his chest. "There were high levels of flunitrazepam in your system. We think it may have caused the seizure. At least that's what we're hoping. "
