Misty turned up the volume of her stereo, allowing the music to boom through her room. The redhead went over to her bed with a sigh and plopped down, staring at the ceiling. When it was time for the chorus, Misty simply couldn't resist. "Tell me, how can it be boy?" she joined in, "You're still a runaway!"
"You chase the dreams from heaven above," she sang as her mind drifted to a certain someone. "Where in this world will you find a place to stay? Runaway from love!" she belted out. Misty closed her eyes and hummed along to the rest of the song as her thoughts kept wandering.
She knew any attempts of pushing them away would be futile. Sometimes, she wondered if they would ever stop. Then again, she wasn't even sure that she wanted them to stop. The buzz of her phone pulled her back into reality. The song had long stopped.
Misty reached out to grab her phone, silently praying the message was from Ash. Her eyes lit up when she looked at the display and noticed Ash's name blinking. Quickly sitting up, she straightened her back and took a deep breath. "Here goes nothing," she whispered to herself, trying to contain her excitement.
Her mood soured a bit when she saw what Ash had sent her. It was yet another picture from an Alolan beachfront, the gorgeous, crystal-clear ocean sparkling in the background. Misty was immediately entranced by the view, having to force herself to look at the rest of the picture.
Ash was situated right in the middle, with Pikachu sitting comfortably on his left shoulder. Next to him stood a guy with a combination of black and red hair. His torso was exposed and it seemed like he was trying to showcase his muscles. Misty didn't pay him any attention. However, as she looked over to the person standing at the opposite side of Ash, her heart skipped a beat.
A beautiful girl with long, green hair smiled into the camera, definitely too close to Ash for Misty's comfort. "No," the redhead breathed, "It can't be..." Her mind pushed away reason and formulated the sentence that Misty had always been afraid of. Somehow, during his travels, Ash had actually found a girlfriend.
Dazed, she read the message Ash had sent as well. "Been having lots of fun lately! Alola is really amazing! What's new back in Kanto?" it said. Misty put down her phone and stared blankly out the window, overwhelmed by her feelings to express any of them. An idea suddenly popped into her mind.
As if by second nature, she reached for her phone again and dialed Brock's number. After the third ring, he picked up. Immediately, a loud clank was heard, followed by a high-pitched scream of joy. "Uh, Brock here!" Brock answered, obviously in great distress, "What's up, Misty? It better be important."
"It's about Ash," Misty stated firmly as if that would explain everything. For a moment, there was silence. "And?" Brock questioned, confused and slightly annoyed. "We're going to Alola. I'll see you in two hours!" the redhead ordered. Her friend spat out, "What? Misty, you can't just do that! You know my siblings-"
"Fine," Misty groaned, "Three hours then. And remember to bring shades!" With that, she hung up, not giving Brock the chance to complain further. Her mind was made up. She would settle things with Ash, once and for all. Taking a deep breath, Misty began to search for her suitcase.
