Chapter 1

Thomas POV

I wake up at the edge of the hill facing the water. I see the sun begin to rise and begin to sit up only to notice Brenda laying on my left arm. I can't help but smile, she was there for me the whole time, and now here she is laying next to me in Paradise.

I know we kissed last night, and don't get me wrong, I loved every minute of it but does that me she likes me? and I like her? What do I do next? I have a whole civilization to create and take care of. Do I have time for a love life?

I see Brenda blink her eyes a few times before she smiles. "hey there" she says. I can't help but smile back, "hey". "I was thinking, we need to talk to Minho about sleeping arrangements, because even though your arm works as a great pillow, I would love to not sleep on the ground" she says through laughs. I smile, "well at least you had something to lay your head on" I say. She laughs and I join her.

We are interrupted by Minho cutting in, "hey lovebirds, you ready for some real work?" he yells at us through our laughter. Brenda stops laughing and turns towards Minho. "At least Thomas can get a girl" she says before getting up and kissing my cheek. She continues to walk toward a fire that was built in the night for the immune children.

"She is a fiesty one" Minho says before giving me a slap on the back. "yeah, she is". "I am heading down the hill to see if there is any sign of other people. Who knows maybe WICKED has been sending immunes here". I hadn't thought about that, but it was a good idea. "Are you taking anyone with you? Like a search party?" I ask. "yes" he replies, "You and me, since we were runners". I am flattered that he picked me, but not surprised. "what about Brenda?" I ask as my eyes shift to her sitting at the fire alone holding her arms for warmth. "You want to bring your girlfriend?" he asks. "she isn't my girlfriend and she helped me in the Scorch, she is a good asset" I reply. "A good asset? Or has good assets?" Minho replies with a smirk. I can't help but blush, but know what I meant. "Fine she can come, but no lovey dovey stuff or I'll puke" he says pretending to vomit. "what time do we leave?" I ask hoping I have enough time to eat whatever Frypan has made. "around noon, you have about three hours to get ready". I nod my head and reassure Minho that we will be there.

I turn and head for the fire and join Brenda by the fire. "hey" I say sheepishly. Why am I so shy? We are friends, or are we more than friends? "hey" she replies, "so how was your talk with Minho?". "it was good, me and you are going with him to look for any signs of civilization" I say hoping she will want to come. "that sounds great" she says with a smile before kissing me on the lips. I am taken back but slowly melt into it. As soon as the kiss started, it ended with Brenda pulling away and smiling. "I have to go pack, see you soon", she says before getting up and slowly walking off to the area with all the supplies we have left next to the burned down shed. Man, what am I going to do?
