Chapter 31

Nate

*The night before*

"It's a little excessive going all the way to New York just to get laid to keep up this ruse. But then again you always did love conquering a good challenge." Celeste taunts.

She cornered me when I was on my way to the bathroom to find Jenna. Pulling me into one of the empty offices along the way.

"You have it all figured out huh?" I ask smirking. I'm surprised to hear that Celeste has been in contact with Melody.

"Pretty much yeah."

She doesn't know shit. Things may have started out that why but that's not how things are now. I open my mouth to tell her just that when all of a sudden Celeste launchs herself at me. I catch her so she doesn't fall and she smashes her lips to mine.

Momentarily stunned I just stand there holding her. When I manage to snap out of it I push her off me carefully, so I don't hurt her.

"What the fuck Celeste?! You need to get it through your thick skull. You and I are over." I say gesturing between us.

"But..."

"But nothing. What I have with Jenna is nothing like what you and I had. It's real. She loves me and she would never even dream of stepping out on me like you did."

"Nate..."

"And I love her. Not you. So stay away from her and stay the hell away from me too."

Storming out of the room I go in search of Jenna. I stunned myself with my revelation but I realized it's true. I do love Jenna. The thought brings a smile to my face and light feeling consumes me. I never thought I'd ever feel this way but I'm fine just being with Jenna without sex. Being with her feels right.

Outside the bathroom I wait a while, even asking someone to check for Jenna inside for me. When the lady tells me the bathroom is empty I figure she just went back to the party. Inside the ballroom I search through the crowd. Continuously getting stopped by people to chat.

After a while Tyler and Cassie find me and pull me away from a boring story being told by one of my grandfather's friends.

"We're going to head out. We'll see you tomorrow." Ty says. He has reservations for him and Cassie to stay here at the resort for the night.

"Wait. Have you guys seen Jenna I've been look for her for almost an hour."

"Maybe she went for a walk or got lost. Should we go look for her." Cassie asks reaching into her purse for her phone. She dials Jenna and waits.

"No answer. I think she turned her phone off."

"You guys go. I'll look for her, she has to be around here somewhere."

"Are you sure? We aren't in any hurry."

"Yeah go get out of here. I'll text you when I find her Cass." I see them off and keep looking for Jenna. I try her phone a few times and get no answer. After searching all over and still not finding her I start to worry. What if someone said something to offend her? Or worse yet what if Celeste said something? I hurry out to my car without saying goodbye to anyone. I stop to ask the valet if anyone might have seen her. Hoping she decided to go home and that she's okay.

"Yes sir Mr. Parker. The lady you arrived with rushed out here in tears. A man saw her, she seemed to know him and they left together."

"Who? How long ago?" I ask starting to panic.
