CHAPTER THREE

Wade's head was pounding from all the loud party music on the floor outside the private suite Wes had rented . he had never been a fan of loud wild parties but it was Wes's birthday and it had been a while since they've been able to hang out with each other much of which had everything to do with the fact that they'd all dedicated their time to growing their businesses and being who they are now.

Both Wes and Justin inherited their family businesses while Wade and Dave both worked their butts off to create their companies from scratch. Being together like this was a welcomed prospect and hearing about each other's success was an added bonus.

His gaze swept across the dimly lit room, Wes was at the corner at the end of the room playing poker with his new flavour of the week. Justin had on a sombre expression on his face and had in his hand a glass of whiskey which he'd nursed for the past hour since he arrived, no doubt he was thinking about his wife Maya who had gone missing a day after their wedding. It was pretty obvious that he had fallen head over heels in love with her only he'd never be caught dead admitting it to anyone much less himself. Wade didn't know the details of their marriage but it had something to do with a conniving grandfather.

Dave on the other hand sat on the love seat with an arm draped around Mila as he pulled her closer. Mila was gorgeous and smart but it didn't look like she loved anything remotely Dave other than his bank balance but Dave was obviously besotted. It was pathetic, just like the situation he found himself in. Nelly had taken off without so much as a word after being obviously over the moon about their engagement Wade had hired a private investigator but nothing so far.

He pushed away from the plush cushion and got to his feet.

"You leaving already?" Justin asked looking up at Wade.

"Aw come on you just got here at least have another shot and hang out awhile" Wes insisted. "Sit back man, relax, look around you and take your pick." He waved his hand around the room at the number of gorgeous women around.

Wade knew better than to take Wes's bait, he rarely came to those upmarket clubs in town because he didn't believe in drowning his sorrows in alcohol or dallying with unknown women, he simply buried his life in his work and that had worked out fine for him until he decided he needed a temporary change of atmosphere now here he was.

"Whatever man, you guys stay and enjoy the party i'm out of here."

"I could never really understand your aversion to clubs." Dave said thoughtfully but Wade ignored him and left the room.

Wade walked out of the club breathing deeply, he tugged relentlessly at the tie that had suddenly felt like a noose around his neck. Unwanted emotions clawed at his heart until it felt raw and closed off making him unable to breathe.

He got in his car and sat silently behind the wheel, it's been eight months since Nelly rejected his proposal choosing her career over a life with him. It still hurt so much like it was yesterday. Wade loved her, still does and not a day had passed that he didn't hope she'd change her mind and come running back into his arms but it didn't seem like that's going to happen anytime soon.

He switched on the ignition just as a brunette pulled open the back door and slid in.

Wade had been too stunned to offer an immediate reaction.

''Drive please.''

''Excuse me?'' He turned to face her from his seat.

''You heard me drive or do I have to teach you your job?'' The woman said having the galls to talk down to him.

''I think you've got the wrong idea here lady...''

''Please you talk too much let's just go okay.''

His initial shock abated, wade's countenance shifted drastically and he snapped open his seat belt and got out of the car, he was in no mood to deal with bratty party girls.

He rounded the car to the other side and yanked the door angrily pulling her by the arm, she protested to no end and that was when he caught a whiff of alcohol.

It was so strong he wondered how he had failed to notice. He let go of her arm only to catch her again when she tottered helplessly. Wade took one look at her appearance and shook his head in pity she was dressed in the most enticing little black number there is, her dark curls tumbled down her face and came to cover her smudged eyes she was drunk through and through and looked like she would pass out any moment. He debated leaving her in the parking garage but one quick sweep of the area at the sight of a group of drunk guys filing in and out, he thought better of it.

She looked lost and helpless.

What sort of person would he be if he left her out here? And Lord knows he wouldn't be able to sleep at all.

Her head fell on his shoulder suddenly and she inhaled deeply pressing against him and sighing in contentment.

''Mm, you feel so nice.'' She murmured.

Wade's brows shot skywards at her blatant comment. She was strange alright.

He pulled her roughly by the arm. ''Jesus you're dead drunk!''

''So what? you have no right to judge me I'm only paying you to take me home.'' She snatched back her arm and was climbing back into the car when he pulled her again.

''Hey hey what do you think you're doing my car is not a taxi.''

''I'm not an idiot you know, I've got plenty of cash I'll pay you whatever you want.''

''Oh really now?'' Wade stood back and watched her in amusement, he took in her appearance once again and wondered how she managed to look so cute. She was speaking gibberish now flailing her arms struggling to enunciate every word and occasionally holding on to his shoulders for support.

Wade had never met anyone without a care in the world, she was delicate as a china but with a tongue as sharp as a needle.

''Alright get in.'' He sighed.

Selya sang at the top of her lungs nearly piercing his eardrum one minute and the next she's silent. So silent that one look told him all he needed to know. He kept glancing through the overhead mirror and she just kept staring out the window at empty space.

''So what's your address?'' Wade asked finally, he didn't think she'd reply but then she said, ''anywhere.''

''What?''

''Take me anywhere, I'm not prepared to go home just yet. I just want to have a moment to myself.'' She explained although the last part was mostly said to her person. Light rain dropped against the windows and soon began to pelt against them. ''Stop the car.''

''What? Why?''

''I wanna get off.''

'' It's raining cat and mouse out there.''

''Stop the car!'' She shouted and the tires screeched loudly against the asphalt as he slammed the brakes.

''Jesus What is wrong with you! Have you gone crazy?'' Wade scolded but she ignored him and got out. ''My God this woman has gone mad.'' He sighed to himself.

In all his thirty-five years Wade had never seen anyone so stubborn and careless. He was tempted to just drive off but the humanity in him and curiosity got the best of him so he sat back watching to see what she was up to.

But he didn't expect her to slide down on the wet asphalt right in the middle of the empty road.
