CHAPTER 6

There were many things Dawn Morgan took seriously; college, fighting crime and frosting cakes. Frosting cakes was something she had done ever since she was little, now she happily frosted cakes for Mrs. Burnes in the apartment complex. Her mother taught her the main basics of mastering the cake, it was ride or die when it came to it. Today was different, Mrs. Burnes had dropped off the two-story cake and asked for perfect frosting.

Dawn held the cap between her teeth, the concentration was written on her face, she carefully moved back and forth over the cake. Blue frosting coated the chocolate cake, she grabbed the nearby spatula and smoothed it. Kitty bounced into the room, she was dressed in all pink, bows in her hair. "Hi!" In the midst of drawing flowers, Dawn grunted a reply and looked at her sister.

Her phone rang a little after, she groaned and reluctantly answered it in annoyance. "Yes?"

"Morning to you too," A gruff voice said. "Oh- Dick, sorry, I'm busy." She sighed and set the cap on the counter. "Did you find Rachel?" Dick had made her go home before they crossed the 'You are now leaving Gotham' sign. Dawn willingly went back in another cop car without speaking back to him. "No. There wasn't even trace of her." Dawn squinted as she rounded the cake with swirls, "I shouldn't have left."

"No, I told you to because it was getting late and possibly dangerous."

"Dangerous? You should see some of the things I do and put up with." She smirked and imagined him rolling his eyes wherever he was. "Next time, don't send me him."

"We'll see. What're you doing now?"

She muffled a groan when the frosting fell onto her shirt. "Ugh- trying to frost a cake for a lady in the apartment complex."

"Detective and baker, hmm."

"Hey smartass, she pays me to do it."

The two laughed on the phone before an awkward silence fell in and Dawn coughed feeling weird. Even though she was on the phone, she could feel the tension, she set the cake aside and licked some frosting from her fingers. "So..."

"Um..right. I should get back to finding...Rachel."

"Yeah, and I need to finish this cake before Mrs. Burnes start taking my pay away by the minute." The call ended with no 'goodbye' or 'see you later' the two were too awkward at the moment to say anything else. Dawn shoved her phone in her back pocket and covered the cake, she sighed and leaned with her palms and the cool counter. Her phone rang again, this time it was Mrs. Burnes. "Hi, Mrs. Burnes, I'm on my way with the cake now. yes, blue frosting just like you asked."

Dawn dropped off the cake around one and went back to her apartment to get some training in. She was deep in thought during training. How had Rachel seen her on the night it all went down? She'd seen Dick also and mentioned something about a..circus was it? Dawn breathed in and lifted the wights when she stood at the window that overlooked Gotham. Rachel also said her mother was killed, murdered; but why was there no case file? Sure, officer Travis had found it but it took hours after they'd spoken to Rachel.

Dawn had recently found an old police radio, she had been working on it for a few weeks and finally, it was up and running. It was good to have it around, she could know when a crime was in progress and when to get her uniform on. She was sure most heroes had radios, surely Batman had one, how did he arrive at the crimes so fast? Dawn lowered the weights and wiped the sweat from her forehead. A loud ring suddenly sounded, she jumped but then realized it was the radio.
