TRIS POV
It all happened too fast, our family walking on the crosswalk and the cars hurdling at us. I was only 11. Yet I survived. My mom and dad both were directly hit and died instantly, as for my brother Caleb, I don't know where he is. I'm not even sure if he died. He ran off after everything happened and I haven't seen him since.
I got very lucky, I got away with only a broken arm and sprained ankle. I felt no pain in my arm or ankle, only pain for losing my mother and father. Not that it mattered. They didn't pay much attention to me anyway, unless I did something bad. Then, it wasn't very pretty.
They sent me to an orphanage, because it was the only place I could go. It was only about 15 minutes away from the accident site. I sometimes take the long route to avoid it.
***
The orphanage isn't better then the life I had before. I remember I used to be exited to come home to the orphanage and hang out with my "friends". Let's just say that they weren't very friendly after some time. But I can't leave, I'm too young. I'm only 16, and no one wants a 16-year-old orphan. Especially one that is as weak and small as I am.
