Ch. 19 Sled

Trudging through the snow of early November, Tierra and Xander walked through the streets of Arconia hand in hand. Each of their body heat permeating into one another.

"Why didn't we take a carriage? It's freezing!" Tierra complained as she blew warm air into her free hand, also with the help of some magic....

"Well, we can spend more time this way, and it's nice outside... y'know?" He began swinging their arms back and forth, while he grinned foolishly. Tierra gave a glare, and stilled their arms.

What 'its nice outside y'know?! It is chilling to the bone! Nice your butt!!!

"You want to borrow my scarf? It's warm," he offered, but Tierra refused quickly, as they were getting a lot of attention and all she wanted to do right then was to quickly arrive at their destination.

"Let's just hurry to the restaurant."

They both sat down at a booth with dim lantern lights on the ceiling. Dim sum was splayed on the table with fresh chicken, fish, pork, etc..

This is like Chinese culture..... hm

Tierra picked up her chopsticks, and grabbed for the chicken.

Where's the seasoning when you need it..

"Any problems happening within the kingdom?" Tierra asked as she then reached for her jasmine tea. She glanced up from her food when she heard the prince sigh.

"The Balvon river has frozen up, as you know, it is the source of water and food we have at the borders for our troops. Since we can't ship food shares everyday, they mostly fish for food on the river. But since this year's cold seems to be much harsher than the past, we don't know how were gonna be able to ship them faster when we can only give rations twice a month on horseback..." he put down his chopsticks and sighed again, as he slumped back in his chair and gave a wry smile.

"And by that time, they would've all starved...."

Tierra wasn't sure why but she felt a pain in her chest knowing his problems. She also wanted to help him but she didn't know how. For her, time was also running out.

Snow......frozen river..... AHGG! What can help in the cold weather? A snow mobile? They don't even have a simple flashlight yet come on! ......... a sled.. THAT'S IT.

Tierra slammed her chopsticks down on the table as she got up.

"I have a solution!" She quickly grabbed Xander's hand and walked out the door. She was so excited that she could lift a burden off his shoulder that they almost forgot to pay-.. almost.

The prince looked at her with a questioning gaze. Tierra smiled confidently back at him, and nodded to reassure him as she led him back to her household. Xander's heart started heating up like he couldn't feel the cold breeze anymore. It was like he was melting when he saw her smile and try to reassure him. That's when he promised he will protect her with his life no matter what.

Finally arriving at her place, she was too excited to greet any of her servants at that moment. She quickly led him to her room still prancing with excitement. Although he knew she thought of something that could possibly help him, when he saw her leading him into her room, he froze for a bit. In his entire life, he has yet to enter his fiance's room, or any other girl's room besides his sisters's.

Tierra didn't seem to mind at the moment so he eased up and walked in with a bit if caution. As he gawked at the sight of her room, Tierra went to get a piece of paper and a writing brush.

She sat down and drew for a minute or two, and ushered Xander to come over. He looked at her drawing with confusion written on his face. Tierra laughed for a minute and explained.

"This is a sled, it moves quicker on snow and ice, maybe on a sled with some huskies, you will make it faster to give rations in a day or two!"

Xander looked at it intensely like he was trying to break it up and understand the concept. "How does it work?" He questioned.

"It just slides on snow and ice......... Ahem..." Tierra really couldn't think of anything else to say about it besides what she had already spoken.

"Where do we get these 'huskies' from? Are they a kind of horse?"

"..........." She didn't think about it if they had actual huskies, but they had magical beasts.

"I meant snow wolves ehehe," she figured that since they had fire wolves, from a couple years back experience. They should have snow wolves right?

"Cough......"

"Oh okay! I'll get someone to build this 'sled' but if you can please advise them because we don't know about this .... and I will have a beast tamer go and fetch a couple snow wolves! I hope this thing you mentioned works ..."

Tierra let out a sigh of relief, snow wolves do exist..... She should really do more research on beasts that's out of her vicinity.

She looked at him with a soft gaze when she saw hope in his eyes. "Thank you wifey.... I don't know what I'd do without you......"

Silence.....

".....Who are you calling wifey?!?! I am not your wife, you are the one who brought upon this engagement! And, and-!.... Why are you still in my room?! Out, out!!!" Tierra had a 180 turn in attitude and kicked him out of her room.

Xander rubbed his poor behind as he stared at her door. "You never change do you..... Heh..." He chuckled before leaving with Tierra's blueprint of the sled.

Tierra peeked out from her door to see if he was still there. She sighed in satisfaction when she saw nobody.

".....What is happening to me, I'm letting my guard down more than usual. Ahg!" She walked back inside her bedroom and flumped onto her bed.
