Jaime had quickly become one of her closest gossiping partners. After his falling out with his sister, she knew he wanted another person to speak with. And with the alluding she did towards his darkest secrets, he seemed more than willing to keep her close to avoid that information spreading. "Ned Stark has called for your father to report to him and answer for Ser Gregor's crimes." The man looked her up and down as she spoke. "He is to arrive within a fortnight or be branded an enemy of the crown."
Ned is a fool. Honourable, but a fool all the same. The man before her sighed loudly. "Poor Ned Stark. Brave man, terrible judgment."
"You were the one to attack us," she told him. "Attacking us was stupid, you have to know that." She smirked at him when a joke formed in her head. "Didn't know Tywin's own son could be so foolish." He cocked a brow and smiled.
"His wife took my little brother-"
"But he was freed. He's on his way, as far as I know." She interrupted quickly. Again, the man looked at her curiously as if he were looking through her to understand how she'd learned the news. "It is part of my duties serving the Stark girls to stay informed on these matters," she added.
She knew the man did not believe her but she ignored him. "Oh, I'm sure." Without a word, she walked to the balcony.
"Do you ever think of what others think of you?" She leaned against the railing and looked out onto the city. She could hear him shuffling behind her, quiet compared to the loud calls of birds above and the rustling of leaves in the wind.
"Of course I do. People whisper behind my back and call me Kingslayer in their haughty voices. I hear it, them pretending they know what I did, and of course, it bothers me." He leaned against the railing next to her. With his green eyes trained on the city he spoke. "I wish they'd be grateful. Not in the way that they'd bow down to me as their savior, but I would love to be able to walk the halls without whispers following me."
"Perhaps the whispers are of you and your sister," she commented lowly. She saw him tense at her side. It was a recent discovery of hers, how deeply Cersei and Jaime once loved each other. Though the love had faded, rumours and tales still remained. She had her secrets and no plans to share them. I have leverage with him, she thought of the incestuous relationship, and he has a reason to keep me near. To distract from the rumours.
He turned to her slowly but she did not turn to meet him. "Me and my sister, eh?" She nodded and casually looked out at the city. From her vantage point, she could clearly see the Sept of Baelor to her left and the faint shape of the Dragon Pit to her right. Where the House Targaryen died, she thought to herself. Their last dragons were destroyed in that building and the house soon after.
"I've seen you together." Her voice dropped to a whisper. This will be a last sort of test, she told herself, not yet looking at him, to see if my suspicions are true. "Tell it to me true, Jaime. The royal children are yours, aren't they?" By the way he reacted, she knew she'd revealed the truth. He shook his head and laughed arrogantly. Instead of denying it, he asked for proof. "They do not look like Robert's children. They are blonde-haired and green-eyed because their parents shared a womb, yes?"
"If I were to confirm this, Cersei would label me a traitor. If I deny, it wouldn't be the first time I'd lied." He looked at her suddenly, his gaze holding only to hers. She did not smile and she did not scowl. Her face remained impassive. "Who will you tell? How long do I have to flee before Robert's wrath follows me."
"I'd be more worried about Cersei's wrath if anything." They shared a laugh at their common dislike of the blonde woman. He still loved her as a sister and Vaela respected her as a force, but they did not like her as of late. "But I wouldn't dare tell a soul. I figured they were not the King's children when I saw them leave Winterfell. I knew you and your beloved sister were close, but it was only recently that I saw how close. I haven't a soul to share the news with, nor do I have a reason, you have my word."
