The Dead Fall

Chapter 1

Noah Daniel woke up in his warm comfy bed to the sun shining though the blinds the balcony door of his two story home in the Daniel safe zone in Franklin, Illinois. He got up and put on his pants, a red flannel shirt, his belt with his holsters on it, and finally his boots. He then walked over to the blinds and opened them up, squinting his eyes until he was used to the sunlight. He opened the door and walked out on to the balcony and looked over the walled in community of houses. Everyone who stayed had a job and there were quite a bit of people, more people then Noah had ever seen together before this. But now he was leading it, just like he had learned from his father. The farms were being tended to, the laundry was being washed in the pond, and the windmill was being built. The last twelve years weren't easy he had met a lot of people and lost a lot of people but in the end it all finally paid of.
"Morning sir." One of the community members said walking past the front of his house.
"Good morning to you too, Tom." Noah said waving
Noah turned around and walked back inside as he could smell a delicious aroma coming from downstairs. He walked down stairs and saw a beautiful lady cooking some eggs and bacon on the gas stove.
"Hello beautiful." Noah said hugging the girl from behind.
"You're happy this morning." She said looking back to him
He spun her around and kissed her.
"Eva, have I ever told you how much I love you?" Noah asked
"All the time." Eva said kissing him again
Noah sat down at the table to let her finish making food.
"So is everything still going good around here?" Noah asked
"Yep, plenty of food, the well is still working, but Luke is saying he needs some more medicine for the infirmary, just pain pills and such." Eva said
"Ok after breakfast I'll see if Jake is up to go out scavenging with me." Noah said
"Ok, can you go wake up Louis and bring him in here to eat?" Eva asked
"Anything for you, my dear." Noah said getting up and walking into another upstairs room. In there was six year old Louis Daniel named after Noah's grandfather, his first few years were rough but Noah can just hope he doesn't remember all of that and can grow up in this safe zone like a normal kid.
"Hey Louis, time to get up." Noah said pushing on his leg
Louis woke up stretching his arms up the bed.
"Come on." Noah said picking him up and putting him on his shoulder carrying him into the kitchen as Louis laughed. The food was finished and they all sat down and started eating.
"Remember when we met?" Noah asked Eva
"Yeah I saved your butt." Eva said not wanting to curse in front of Louis
**Flashback 8 years before**
"Damn it fucking hurts." An 18 year old Noah said dragging his leg after he fell down a hill cutting it open.
"Come on man, we gotta keep moving they're getting closer." Jake said trying to hold Noah up.
"Just let me go here, I'll slow em down. You can get out of here." Noah said in pain
"I'm not gonna leave you." Jake said
The zeds were getting closer and closer as they went through the woods. There was about 20 of them but that was more zombies than they had bullets.
"Fuck." Jake said dropping Noah on the ground
He pulled out his .44 magnum and shot 4 or 5 of the zeds.
"This is it brother." Noah said
He shot three shots and his gun clicked, out of ammo.
"I'm staying with you." Jake said
"No please go, save yourself." Noah begged
The zeds were almost to them when they heard rifle shots from in the woods somewhere. The zeds started dropping right in front of them. They were all dead when from behind some trees a beautiful girl about their age walked out with an Ar-15.
"Looks like you two need some help." Eva said
"Yeah he has a messed up leg and really needs some help." Jake said
"Thank you, I'm Noah and this is Jake." Noah said
"I'm Eva, I think I can help you with that leg." She said
Noah and Jake followed Eva back to a camper she had in the woods.
They walked in and she laid Noah down on the bed.
"I'm gonna need you to go ahead and take your pants off." She said
"Umm." Noah said shyly
Jake turned around and walked outside.
"Do you want me to fix your leg or not don't make it fucking weird." Eva said
After a few minutes Noah's leg was all bandaged up. She came back in an hour later to check on him.
"Thank you." Noah said
"You owe me one." Eva said
"Come here." Noah said motioning her down to his face
When she was close enough her kissed her and she kissed back, eventually they stopped and Eva looked at him.
"We're even." She said smiling
**present**
"Yeah I can believe that even worked." Noah said laughing
"You are quite the charmer." Eva said
"Well I'm gonna go look around and check in everything." Noah said
"Ok be careful." Eva said
"I will." Noah said leaning down and kissing her
"You be good." Noah said to Louis kissing him on the forehead
"I always am." Louis said laughing
Noah walked outside and talked to a few of the townspeople before checking the progress on the windmill.
"Hey Kyle, hows it going." Noah asked
Kyle was on the side of the windmill attaching some boards.
"It's going great, Noah. It's almost finished." Kyle said
"Nice." Noah said walking away
Noah walked to one of the guard towers and climbed up to the top and looked around.
"I think about you everyday, it's like you're still here guiding me though everything I do. I think of you leading our little group through Elliot, the clowns, and building the safe zone. I think of mom, Skylar, and Edge. And I feel like if I don't talk to you at least once a week I'll go insane, or maybe I'm already insane talking to a dead person." Noah said staring at a chair as the vision of his dad sitting there fades away. Noah then grabbed a silenced rifle off the gun rack and took aim at the outside of the walls. Zeds lined the outside and Noah starting shooting them one by one. Then Jake climbed up the ladder and stood next to him.
"Good morning." Jake said staring off into the distance
"Good morning." Noah said putting down the gun.
"It's looking like it's gonna be a pretty day." Jake said
"Yeah, I was gonna ask you if you wanted to go on a run later to get some medical supplies." Noah said
"Sure, been needing to get out." Jake said
