The Dead Fall

Chapter 4

Noah held his stomach and looked up as the zeds inched closer to him. "Oh fuck." He said as his vision was starting to go black. He crawled over to his pistol and grabbed it. He fired shots into the group of zeds before he heard it click. Then from nowhere came a group of people on horses with spears and clubs. They started to kill zeds one after another until there was a gap big enough for them to grab Noah. Noah passed out after being thrown on the back of a horse. He woke up a few weeks later in a hospital bed with people looking over him. "He's awake, go get Scott" one of the people said. They ran out and a few minutes later a new guy came in.
"You took a pretty nasty hit out there. How'd it happen?" The guy said
"Some asshole named Chase." Noah said
"Yeah that asshole has been tormenting our communities around here for a while. I'm Scott by the way." He said
"Noah. What do you mean communities? Like plural?" Noah asked
"Yeah, you got us Hopeville, keeps the morale up with a name like that, and we got Dawnbury about a days walk out. They're a bit of a more modern military town then us. We are trying to bring society back to the way it was before all of this. That's why we called it Hopeville, hope for a new tomorrow as I like to say." Scott said
"There's other communities." Noah said to himself
"Other communities? Did you have a home before you ended up here?" Scott asked
"Yes, I'm their leader. We call our self Daniel safe zone, due to my last name of course." Noah said
"That's amazing. A few weeks ago was the first time we ever ventured out that far. We found you and headed back." Scott said
"A few weeks? How long have I been out?" Noah asked
"About three weeks in think we were starting to get worried about you." Scott said
Noah started to get up but felt a sharp pain in his stomach.
"Careful, go slow." A man said next to him.
Noah, slower this time, sat up on the edge of his bed.
"When you're ready come find me outside and I'll show you around." Scott said
Noah rested for a little while longer and then finally worked up the strength to go outside with a cane the doctor gave him. He was amazed by the sights of this place. It was just like home, so many people, farms, houses and it just seemed like everything was normal. That's when he saw Scott talking to some of the townspeople. Noah walked over to them.
"Noah this is Frank and Felix, they'll be taking you back home when the road clears." Scott said
"Thanks, what do you mean about the road clearing?" Noah asked
"The horde followed you guys back, it's pretty bad out there we're hoping they'll just pass." Felix said
"Scott can I talk to you for a second?" Noah asked
"Why sure." Scott said
They walked away from Felix and Frank
"Scott, I cant wait that long I gotta get back to my people. I gotta make sure Chase doesn't hurt anyone else." Noah said
"I understand Noah but going out there right now is a death wish." Scott said
"I can make it on my own if your people won't help." Noah said
"Noah, you can't help your people if you're dead. So let's just wait it out and we'll take care of Chase together. Surely between the three of us we can take him out." Scott said
Noah nodded reluctantly.
"Do you have some sort of long distance radio so I can try to get a hold of my people?" Noah asked
"Yes actually we do, follow me." Scott said
Noah followed Scott up to the top story of the town hall building. Inside was a radio that had a notepad next to it with frequency's written on it.
"Whats all that?" Noah asked
"Just frequency's we've found people on, most we lost contact with in a few days." Scott said
Noah turned on the radio and put it to a random frequency.
"Eva, Jake, can anyone hear me?" Noah said
Noah tried every frequency he could but got nothing.

*Daniel Safezone

Jake woke up in the guard tower to what sounded like crying coming from the Town hall house. He climbed down from the tower and walked into the building and up stairs to Eva's room. He knocked on the door and then it slowly creeped open with Eva on the other side. Eva opened the door all the way seeing who it was and hugged Jake.
"It's gonna be okay." Jake said patting her back.
"Next time Chase comes. Make him pay for what he did." Eva said
"Oh you don't have to worry about that." Jake said
Jake let go and walked out the door and found Kyle by the wall.
"Come with me real quick." Jake said
Jake and Kyle walked to the armory and Jake put in the combination for the safe. Inside was Noah's rifle. A .308 with engraved wood and polished barrel. He handed it to Kyle.
"Chase is gonna come back tomorrow for another payment, I need you to hide in the windmill top room and take him out. I'll take care of the rest of his people. If I don't survive tomorrow take care of Eva and Louis it's what Noah would've wanted." Jake said
