The Dead Fall

Chapter 5

Jake stood behind the newly rebuilt gate as a group of trucks pulled up outside. There was a moment of silence before Jake saw Chase's shadow in the cloth gate cover.
"Let me in, Jake." Chase yelled
Jake walked up to the gate and opened it allowing Chase to walk in followed by a couple trucks to take his loot Jake and the group had gathered for him.
"Jake, bring everyone out to help load my shit so we can get out of here. We have other places to be today." Chase said
"I think us few can handle it." Jake said
Chase gave Jake a bad look and pulled his gun out from its holster.
"I said bring everyone out." Chase said
Jake shook his head and pulled out his walkie and called everyone out. Kyle looked down at Chase and Jake through the scope of Noah's rifle. Everyone came out and started loading up Chase's trucks.
"Chase can I talk to you?" Jake asked
"Why, sure." Chase said happily
They walked away from where everyone was at and where Kyle could get a good shot.
"We can't keep doing this. We don't have enough supplies to keep us alive, let alone giving you supplies to." Jake said
"Jake I gave you a choice, this or you could've came with me and you wouldn't have to worry about these people anymore." Chase said
"These are my people and I will do what I have to, to keep them safe." Jake said
"What does that mean?" Chase asked angrily
Kyle aimed the scope in on Chase's head, he slowly squeezed the trigged and the gun fired.
The bullet flew through the air and hit the ground next to Chase.
"What the fuck!" Chase yelled running to cover.
Jake chased after Chase and they ran into a building. Chase ran up the stairs and Jake followed him. Chase grabbed a fire extinguisher off the wall and chucked it at Jake knocking him down. Kyle loaded another bullet into the gun and ran down from the tower. He met a guy at the bottom of the stairs and put a bullet in his chest. He grabbed the guys gun and ran outside only to be hit in the head by a gun and surrounded. Jake got up and grabbed his stomach from the pain of the fire extinguisher. He started running up the stairs and when he got to the top Chase was aiming his pistol at him.
"Shit." Jake said
"Shit is right. You fucking tried to kill me, that's ten times worse then what Noah did. From now on it's gonna be different. Go outside." Chase said
Chase walked Jake outside at gun point and lined everyone up.
"You people have gave me the most trouble. Why can't you just fall into order like the rest. Now I gotta kill one of you." Chase said
Jake, Kyle, Eva and a few more of the townspeople were lined up with their hands tied behind their backs. Chase pulled out his gun and aimed it at Jake.
"Did you plan this?" Chase asked
"You bet." Jake said
Chase turned around to one of his men.
"Which one shot at me?" Chase asked
Chases men pointed to Kyle.
Chase put his gun to Kyle's head and pulled the trigger.
"Kyle! What the fuck!" Jake yelled
Eva started crying and Jake fell to the ground to his friend. Chase walked over to Eva and looked her up and down.
"You're Noah's widow huh? Shame you couldn't have found someone smarted then him." Chase said
"Fuck you." Eva said
"Oh feisty. I like you, you're coming with me." Chase said
Chase grabbed her arm and walked her to the truck and threw her in the back.
"I'll be back in a week and I expect you to give me everything you have, I don't give a fuck if you all starve." Chase said
Chase got in the truck and they all drove out of the gate.
Someone can and untied Jake and he stood up and started walking toward the town hall. He went inside and Louis was sitting in his room.
"Uncle Jake whats going on?" Louis asked
Jake kneeled down to Louis
"You're gonna have to stay in the bunker every now and again, I'll have you're teacher down there to take care of you." Jake said
"Where's mommy?" Louis asked
"She went away for a little bit, she'll be back I promise." Jake said
Louis hugged Jake and a tear rolled down Jakes face. Jake got on his walkie and called for Louis's teacher, Spencer.
He walked through the door and Louis ran over to him.
"Mr. Peters!" He shouted and hugged him
Jake brought Spencer into a room without Louis.
"I need you to take Louis down to the bunker when stuff gets serious here. There's enough food and water to last a week Incase something bad happens. And when something happens don't come up until I say so." Jake said
"I can do that. Anything to protect precious little Louis." Spencer said
Jake walked outside and called everyone in for a community meeting.
"We tried today to end this misery but, our plan back fired and because of that we lost some good people. From now on we won't take Chase's shit. If he wants a war he's got one, I hid some weapons in the town hall basement. I'll get them and distribute them as needed and we'll have everyone practice to be ready. We will stand against evil and bring back Eva safe and sound."
